The price was $200, but has recently jumped to $500 (from memory) for the gorilla glass option.

How are people liking these windshields? Worth it?

I have a zero dollar glass deductable on my insurance, so if a plain glass windshield breaks, I don't really care.

This video expresses some negative feelings towards them.

Thanks!

I was planning on adding the gorilla glass to my build but after the recent price hike, I'm out! I'll take my chances with the basic for now. Maybe in the next few years they will have improved their durability. I have seen too many disappointing videos and stories on them.

Yeah, I figured for $200 why not, but looked harder at $500.

Sounds like you get chips with the GG anyway, but it wont crack. Terrific -you just get 20 chips in your windshield and insurance won't replace it, because it doesn't obstruct visibility! Sounds like a bad idea to me.

I recently was hit with a 2-3” piece of rock that flew off a dump truck on the highway at 75 mph. Not a single chip, scratch, or crack on my gorilla glass windshield. Personally, I find it was worth every Penny after that.

Btw, the rock bounced off my windshield and shattered the windshield of the Bronco driving next to me. ??

If it last 2x as long as a regular windshield then it’s worth it. My last regular glass windshield only lasted a month and a half.

Yikes. Do you have any chips from smaller rocks?

I borderline regret getting it at $195; certainly would NOT at the new $495 or whatever ridiculous price they have it at now.

I haven't received my rig yet, but other owners have changed in saying it's not worth it based cracks/chips/etc. There's a few threads with tons of owner feedback.

My basic glass cracked within a month. I paid $672 to have the dealership replace it with GG. So far Ive taken 2 hard hits and have zero damage. No chips, cracks, scratches etc. I figured, the basic glass to replace was $360, the GG gave me one free replacement. At worst, Id spend the same amount to replace the basic twice as the GG twice. So far Im very pleased with it.

That being said, at some point it will break. Its lasted twice as long as the basic one so far though.

For $100-$200 I think it's worth it for GG. I ordered for less than $200 at invoice. I would need to really think abut it for $500...probably not.

Then don’t set your mind at what others say. Jeep windshields are brutal for getting broken due to the fact they are so straight and flat. If you get a year out of a regular Jeep windshield you are doing good. I finally gave up changing them on my last rig after the last windshield went only a month before it cracked across the whole width. The longest I’ve ever gone on a new windshield was 6 months before it cracked. Like I said if the gorilla glass goes a couple years then it’s worth the money.
