I just ordered my wife an 80th anniversary JLU with the 18 inch wheels. Started looking at tires and it seems that everything I can find for an 18 inch rim is an LT tire with an E load range. Will the JLU ride OK with the 10 ply tires or will they make it ride like crap? Anyone know of a 34ish inch AT that’s not E rated?

Yes. Plenty of people run with E range tires. Some tires ride harsher than others, so do your research before purchasing. BFG KO2, Yokohama Geolander X-AT and Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT are popular choices.

My current Milestar Patagonias are E-rated, ride is fine w/ them @ 32 psi, they seem to have a softer compound though as tread wear isn't very good.

I found that Nitto makes a Terra Grappler AT 295/70r18 in a non-LT tire. They’re not cheap though but probably what I will go with eventually. Only 50 pounds apiece vs 64 for the same size in LT

Try to confirm the sidewall ply (or thickness) I think the non LT designation and light weight would be especially prevalent at the sidewalls.

I have Ridge grappler 295/70 r18’s (34x11.5) E rated and it rides fine no issues. I love it and commute about 40-50 miles round trip daily. It’s really not that big of a deal or jump from D and I feel E rated tires last longer.

I have 35” ridge grapplers E rated. What dealer ordered that was in stock at the time.
I just ordered the new ko2 37” C rated. It rides terribly with E rated grapplers. I hate driving it on rough roads. Love the look of the tire but it is terrible even at 28 psi. Never again.
some people say they get used to it, to each their own. No point in living with that of I don’t need to. Cant wait for KO2s

Same answer as above. My Sahara came with the 255/70/18 Bridgestone Duelers AT

Wanted to keep the new Stock wheel's so went with BFG KO2's 275/70/18 33's E-rated. I keep PSI 34 and rides great.

After my 4th blowout acting like KOH on rocky logging roads, my mechanic said replace the C tires with E. Never had a flat after going to E.

On my JKUR I switched from KM2s laod range C to Dick Cepecs load range E and noticed no big difference in ride. In fact, the DC E rated rode slightly better on road due to softer compound.

So long as you adjust tire pressure, don't let load rating E deter you from buying.

My kendas are E rated and 3 ply side walls. So far, no major difference on the small bumps really compared to the stock good year wrangler tires. I think the difference is the amount of sidewall and foot print comparing stock to 35s.

Just make sure you adjust tire pressure. That’s gonna have a bigger effect on ride than side wall ply imo.

I roll at 28 psi on e-rated grapplers. Maybe it’s just that tire in particular. Rides nothing like stock. Feels like I’m going down the highway on leaf springs at 50psi.
Maybe try to ride in some friends’ Jeep’s if you know anyone.

I'm on 35" Baja Boss A/T E rated tires and have no qualms or complaints. They are a bit heavier, but the ride is comfortable and they feel responsive. Overall I am pleased. My previous tires were 37 KO2's on a jk with 3.5" game changer lift. I feel more planted and less "floaty", but that's likely more to do with the JL suspension.
