The side wall is a super weak spring that has little to do with ride quality.

E's have stronger side walls, but not as strong as some bias tires. You'll probably never blow a E tire with a sharp rock going through the tread stupidly driving in KoH mode. I blew 4 C tires that way over two years, switched to E's never had a problem.

Punched through my stock KO's (D rated IIRC). I'll get E if that's an option. Nitto 38x13.R17 in the garage. D rated but they do have 3-ply sidewall and thick rubber construction to increase puncture resistance.

I'm putting 33x12.5R17 E rated KO2's on my TJR. The AT tread shreds the least in lava rock. The Firestone DESTINATION M/T2 were the worst.

Running E rated Mickey Thompson Baha Boss M/Ts here. They are 315 70 R17 and did ride pretty rough at 35 PSI. I lowered to 27 PSI and now ride noticeably better. The primary reason I'm running the lower pressure is for a better tire contact area.

Some roads are just too rough to appreciate the E rated tires lol. I can't recommend them at that point. It's one tough tire though.
