Ok, my wife's mistake is my treasure. Lol. She returned items to Amazon. Instead of a refund to my bank, it's an Amazon credit.

So, now, I have $150 to put towards upgrading the front audio of my 20 JLU Sport with the 5" head unit that's recently been replaced with the T'eyes CC2.

I need opinions/suggestions. Do I replace the dash or kick panel speakers? Or, do I get a sub/amp?

I just replaced my dash speakers this morning with 3.5 Kenwood’s. A very noticeable difference. I am going to install 6.5 Polk Audio coaxials using the SSV adapter this weekend. I’m using the 5” radio and these two updates will suffice for me for now. I eventually will get a kicker hideaway for more bass as well.

The Kenwood 3.5's are a great choice as the poster above points out. They also get you a real tweeter so you get some good highs out of them that are completely missing with the factory dash speakers.

You can also put a set of the 3.5's in the sound bar; will help to get some more high fill.

Don't trust color codes and actually check the polarity of the speakers in place. Use an app on your iPhone like speaker pop. Measure actual polarity before and after the swap. As the JL is assembled in good old USA by real humans there has been some variance in which color code is positive/negative.

Thanks!

I'm definitely looking to upgrade everything and add more bass. I was hoping to do the sub/amp combo under a seat, but from the little research I've done, it's not looking good.
I don't have much audio experience, but can follow youtube instructions. Lol.
Will I get more bass out of 6.5" in the kick panels?

Not really, no. Because of how sound processing is done in these jeeps, it cuts bass pretty hard so as to not destroy the factory speakers. Running an external amp and dsp can get some more bass out of 6.5 comps, however it will be more midbass than anything. That being said, you can get crazy bass from under seat subs, but you'll need to get creative. You can check my build thread for the 6.5 inch subs I installed. These little things can damn near shake the rear view mirror loose from the windshield.

I ended up going with the Hertz dcx87.3 first (upper dash), while I am building the rest of the system. I used the Metra adaptors and they are just running off of the stock uconnect 7” right now. They definitely brought the highs up from the crappy stock speakers.

I also did the Metra pods to upgrade the knee panels with Polk db652s, along with the ssv adaptor in the soundbar, also db652s. The polks will be ran off of a us acoustics Barbara Ann amp. The hertz will get a little more power from the heigh10 than the uconnect. And I am still working on a different enclosure for the rear cargo area to mount my FI audio 12” Q. It’s coming together, slowly though.

If it were me, I would spend the money on the Metra pods and db652s. They are highly recommended for our setups, as they get loud and clear. They also happen to be marine speakers and you can find them for around $90 a pair. The pods can be found for around $60. Not sure what Amazon has for them. Hope that helps.

I installed the mopar 3.5s yesterday. Definitely a difference in the highs.

@kapk22 I'll look into those kick panel pods & speakers.

Also wondering what would be the best upgrade for the soundbar..

Really depends on what your goals are. Budget, type of music, amp or no amp.

A simple upgrade is to just swap out the drivers in the bar. You can spend less than $100 and make an improvement. Just remember power isn’t very expensive now days. Another good line is the JBL GTO series.

I'll eventually be adding an amp. Watching other threads to figure out what kind and where to mount a sub. Not wanting to give up cargo space.

Taramps (for cheap good power), us acoustics, Orion, nvx are all nice amps. Sundown as well. Hope that helps.
