Is this really necessary? I dropped of my 2019 wrangler for an oil change and tire rotation free under the Jeep Wave program, but now they are saying I should get the 15,000 mile service for $585. He said it includes flushing the differential fluid, but the list of work done that I’ve seen doesn’t include that. I’m thinking of passing on that.
I changed the differential fluid myself instead of driving 45-minutes each way to the dealer and them charging me a ridiculous amount for a simple task. I changed my differential fluid in the rear in 28-minutes and in 12-minutes for the front. I had never changed the differential fluid in any vehicle before. It is so easy, I recommend everyone do it. I went with 75W-140 severe duty synthetic gear lube from Amsoil as I knew I would be doing some towing and off-roading. You will learn about your vehicle and free yourself from the dealership hard sell on service. I add all the service I do on the Mopar app. I have done everything myself. The transmission (manual) and transfer case are just as simple as the differentials.

Hey that's a really good point out on the mopar app. Is there any benefit to that for a future owner?

I don't know, but when I went in the for the manual transmission recall (addition of a sleeve to a tube from the reservoir) and to get the steering box TSB replacement investigated and approved (waiting for parts) they never tried to upset me on any service work. I keep all the records on that app (oil changes, diffs, tranny, transfer case, air cleaner, cabin air cleaner and tire rotations). The other benefit is there is not doubt as to the fluids I used as I put the brand and weight in the notes per service.

Cool. Yeah, one dealer tried to do the upsell dealer service thing, my other one (where I bought the vehicle) did not. So varies.

I was more or less trying to determine if the Mopar app will log that to the vehicle history that transfers with new ownership (sort of like how carfax documents services if the dealer reports it).

I do most maintenance myself, one it saves money but I also know what products have been put in my vehicle. I also know that plugs were removed and reinstalled properly and those kind of things. I hate paying 50 or more dollars per hour for labor to find out the jacka** that worked on the jeep can't even spell jeep.

I keep a journal on my computer, It started the day I purchased the vehicle. It contains vehicle information such as VIN, Insurance, Loan data, ect. It has a separate modification section that lists everything I have bought and added to the jeep. Date purchased, purchased from, coast, model number and serial number if applicable, date installed. Then I have a Maintenance Section which lists in detail all maintenance actions I have had performed or perform myself. I keep a backup copy and if the dealer or FCA ever questions the maintenance I can provide a copy and also provide a copy to the next owner when ever that time comes.

Just bought the OEM oil and additive yesterday (~$132 total in OEM fluid cost) to do my rear @ 24k. Previous dealership @ 20k (last free change) inspected the oil and said it didn't need it, but I am doing it just as a precaution. Silly enough, different dealer across town tried to push a fuel system flush and diff fluid change (front and rear) on me when I brought it in for a battery replacement (warranty). I agree with folks that said you shouldn't have to double check what's needed and what's not when you take your vehicle in for service. They claimed to do it once a year too, which means as per their recommendations, you'd have like $2k a year in service after all their BS.
I’m embarrassed to admit this but on my first Jeep/dealership I let them do that “fuel system flush” at a 10,000 mile oil change and check up. It was hundreds of dollars. How much gunk can be built up at 10,000 miles?
My fault, lesson learned. Part of the reason I used a different dealer for my JL.

NO reason to be embarrassed! The dealer is the alleged expert on these vehicles. If the dealer says it is important to do, you SHOULD be able to trust that. However, far too many unscrupulous dealers will simply lie to you to get your money.

I understand your point. I gave dealer service a try for my first free oil change....the good news, the oil is filled properly and it appears to have a new oil filter. The bad news....old oil was slopped all over the place underneath....and no attempt to wipe down. No big deal but aligned with my low expectations...

Don’t be embarrassed. They’re supposed to be experts and with that in my opinion comes with responsibility to accurately service your vehicle. Suggesting service and disguising it as necessary for your vehicle is NOT doing that.

We did both diffs today. $130 total for fluids including the additive. Rubicon diffs function as track lock is my understanding when not locked.

Ok, thank you. I was also able to find the manual online. Tough when your car is in for service and you don't have the manual to double check what they're telling you. :)
Exactly! The a-hole dealership 'caught' me with this one!
