I wouldn’t be concerned about the miles under those circumstances.

Not like I was concerned when I saw the tech at the Pontiac dealership do a burnout in the parking lot in my ā€˜05 GTO that I had dropped off for a State Inspection (I don’t mean chirped the tired because he was unfamiliar with the clutch... more like he just won the Daytona 500.)

Or like when I dropped off my ā€˜10 Shelby GT500 Convertible for a stereo issue under warranty and came back to find it a half tank lower on fuel and with 57 more miles on it (ā€œwe had to road test it to see if we could replicate the problem!ā€)

Both issues resolved to satisfaction with dealership management and the corporate offices BTW.

In your case though, the 9 extra miles will be child’s play after the hundreds of frivolous (probably not the right word, but...) miles you’ll put on it finding any excuse possible to drive it whenever you can!

Happy Jeeping!
A Ferris Buller moment no doubt.

I just spent my first day in my new Rubicon and I am in love! The ride is smoother than I expected out of an off road suspension, and the 3.6 V6 is peppier than I expected, and she's just gorgeous, can't stop looking at her. :)
This is my first Jeep, though, after being a GM man all of my life, so I have a few questions.

First, is the eight speed automatic known for slightly sloppy shift? There's almost what feels like a bit of slip between first and second, and second and third. There's plenty of power although I'm taking it easy during break-in, but the shift just seems a bit slushy. This is, however, my first transmission with more than four gears.

Second, is the 3.6 known for being a bit loud? When I'm up close it almost sounds like a diesel. I'm guessing this is normal. This is also the smallest engine I've ever had.

Third but not least, the Jeep had seven miles on it when it came off of the truck. The dealer kept it overnight to do a couple of things to it for me and when I picked it up it had a total of sixteen miles, nine more than the day before. Would this concern you? Nine miles isn't much, obviously, but I'm really concerned with the break-in period and breaking it in right.

I'm sorry if these seem like dumb questions but I'm as new as a Jeep newb can be.

Thanks!
The 8-speed is a great transmission. I don't remember the 8-speed driving sloppy? Mine is very crisp and smooth. Was like that from day one. I have the 2.0 and you have the 3.6 so that might be the difference? The 8-speed does learn driving habits. Give it a little time.

The injectors make some clicking or mechanical noises for sure. Definitely not like a diesel though. I don't want to jinx you but I'd play it safe and have the dealer look at it. I am not saying you have a problem but I would play it safe and have it looked at. I only say this because I know of instances with the 3.6 and valve train ticking noises. Some older 3.6 Pentastar engines had known valve train issue. I assumed those issues were worked out of the JL 3.6 Pentastar until I saw this video and a few threads on valve train noise. Attached a couple of links about the 3.6 engine ticking.

I would not worry about the miles. The tech has to drive it to do the Pre Delivery Inspection. Plus they have to gas it up. That could easily be your extra miles.

Glad you decided to take delivery also. You will LOVE it more every day!

Green is the best color for a Jeep. Congratulations!

Yeah I too am surprised to hear about sloppiness of the transmission. This 8-speed has gotten nothing but raves since it came out for its responsiveness, smoothness and durability. It should feel better with a few miles.

This version of the Pentastar has been thoroughly revised for increased efficiency and to sustain the added stresses of ESS. I find this V6 much quieter than in any of my JKs! I guess it is all relative. I too hear a diesel-like clicking sound at idle, particularly when I am standing outside next to the Jeep, but I think it suits the character of the truck.

Enjoy!

Mine is a manual transmission so I can’t answer there. Like others have said, they’ll take it for fuel or detailing. My JL came in last summer while I was on vacation. I had these visions of people test driving it and kids jumping in and out with their feet on my leather seats. I called the dealer from Bermuda about my concerns. They said ā€œno test drives on ordersā€. When I got back I was happy to see they still had the plastic on the steering wheel which tells me they weren’t lying. I got the idea of taking a picture of the mileage from another forum member as you’ll never see that number again with your current vehicle.

You Drive a manual, in todays world that's a theft deterrent device. Not surprised you only have 4 miles on it. Likely had to be pushed out of the factory and winched everywhere it had to go. Those of us who drive manuals are getting far and few. I don't trust anyone who says they can drive a manual when I take my vehicle in for service anywhere.

I drove it on the highway last night. When I exited the highway and slowed to almost stopped at the light at the ramp, there was a readily audible "bang" sound when it down shifted. Also, it was a bit windy here last night, 15 MPH winds, and it was hard to keep it between the lines. Man, this is my dream vehicle, I saved up for 2.5 years for it. I so hope it's not a lemon.

Sounds like something in your transmission isn't working right.

I'm pretty sure my 3.6 is defective. It is a noisy mofo and it vibrates worse than a harley at idle.

My 8 speed is pretty smooth though. Except when I first drive out in the morning and it's cold out! Sometimes I'll drive about 20 feet and then stop to make a u-turn because I live on a stupid street with a cement divider in the middle.. so if I want to go 'left' I have to make a u-turn!

I've noticed sometimes when I stop there, the Jeep jerks to a stop HARD. The 8 speed doesn't like shifting when cold lol.

Luckily mine has great steering and everything else is fine. But yeah. That 3.6. I kinda wish I had gone with a 2.0T or waited for the diesel or the hybrid or something.

I agree. Your transmission noises and abruptness do not seem normal.

Figure out how to replicate it, and have the dealer take a look.

The bang noise is concerning? Definitely not normal.

Drifting in high winds might be normal. Did you air down your tires after delivery? Check the tire pressure. Set it to 36 PSI and it should feel much better/different.

i wouldnt worry about the extra miles on her. thats normal as to the dealer prep ( gas, car wash, etc.) the 3.6 and 8 spd auto is a great combo. yeah the engine can be a bit louder but that normal. as for the auto, they are smooth as anything. however, your latest post might warrant you to head down to the dealer to have it checked out. and yes on those windy days, you will be getting a workout keeping the jeep between the lines. thats a small price to have in owning a wrangler.

Welcome to the Jeep family!

The 8-speed in my Jeep shifts flawlessly. I have the 2.0L. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Don't worry about 16 miles. Enjoy your Jeep!

yes, my 3.6 sounds like a diesel too but otherwise it runs well

I have an automatic also and when I first got my Willys, every time I put it into reverse I pushed it all the way into park by mistake. It felt like it shifted too easily or was loose or something compared to my last car. I’ve gotten used to it now and that doesn’t happen anymore. Is that what you mean by slushy?

And yes my 3.6 is loud but I love it.

My Jeep was a custom order and had 25 miles on it when I picked it up. I always wondered why and it bugged me. I felt like that was a lot. Maybe someone was joy riding it because it’s so beautiful

It. Was. Me. :CWL: Just kidding :CWL:

One of the trucks that I purchased had 188 miles on it and was sold as new. I had no idea why the vehicle was detailed and all the stickers removed before it was green lit by me.

I found out that it was a dealer trade and had been sold to someone else BUT they changed their mind and brought it back. The dealer never told me at the time of purchase, I found out much, much later. SMH.
