@THAW had posted a rather uber wheel rash pic recently, making me wonder how common that is within our community. Some of our battle scars are obviously from getting a bit too promiscuous with curbs at the local mall, but just how bad epic is yours?

Here's my best worst wheel:

Yeah, I probably should have invested in that protective ring, but oh well!

I touch mine up with Krylon satin black periodically. I’m not sure why I bother. What’s going on with the rest of the wheel…salt or just aluminum oxidation?

That's called the "living in Colorado on a dirt road" visual effect. They're in perfect condition other than the battle scars.

Worst I got was running my previous JLUR with black AEV Sallta wheels on Crawl Daddy at Rausch Creek. Basically 270 degrees of wheel rash with a chunk missing here and there.

But at least the weather was cooperating with great views

Sold this Jeep and on my new JL I'm going with beadlocks with a machine finished beadlock ring so the rashes will hide better lol

My spare… and the other four are similar. Not one caused by a curb. Rubicon was a big contributor.

Yep, the Rubicon Trail was a big part of it, but a lot of the "beauty marks" came from trails around home.

Hopefully nobody takes me seriously about the mall curbs thing. That'd be one hell of a curb!

This is mine, the other 4 are similar but this has the most black on it. Was done going up Switch Backs in the rain out at Stony Lonesome in Alabama

I run Teraflex Nomad wheels and use their plastic rash guards. Last year in Tillamook, I got tangled up in a tree stump. I felt the jolt but didn't think much of it. When we stopped for lunch, I found one section of the ring had broken loose and bent back. The wheel was fine. I got home and replaced the one section with a new one. Easy peasy!

Those are compelling. My local shop was pushing those over Method Bead Grips as a beadlock alternative.

I love 'em. They make airing down a snap, and the replaceable rash rings are great. However, they are not beadlocks. The plastic rash rings screw to the outside of the wheel and protect the wheel rim. They don't contact the tire in any way. That being said, I do run them at 12-14 PSI regularly and have had no issues.
