well, looks like we got another one,..
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCMN-24E025-6768.pdf

i just got notice in the mail for this one from FCA this week. (as seems to be typical, there is nothing showing about this for my vehicle on the J**p app.) of course, they don't have an official solution for it yet. "The remedy for this condition is under development and not currently available."

interestingly, i had been getting a CEL related to this with increasing frequency late last year and just had it replaced it in January (a whole debacle in itself that just reinforced why we don't like dealing with Dealership Service Depts).

to give credit where credit is due, when i contacted JeepCares about my displeasure with having this issue right after the end of my warranty they came back fairly promptly and ponied up a 4-digit contribution to the effort, but i was still left with some out-of-pocket expense. now it looks like i'm going to get to go chase reimbursement.

Dated March 15, 2024 and we're just now hearing about it? My account says there are no recalls associated with my vehicle, so I guess I'll wait and see what comes of this. Thanks for posting the info.

The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in 2nd Quarter of 2024.

Taken from the FCA bulletin.

i also got a notification for this. Not sure if it’s for my 21 Wrangler or 23 Grand Cherokee L or both. We kept getting airbag alert warnings just after purchasing the Grand in September and it was back at the dealership for about 3 of the first 6 months of ownership. I wonder if this has anything to do with that.

Jeep taking a page from Ford's playbook - yeah, we have no idea how to fix it just yet, but you'll have a recall on your vehicle coming soon.

Here is what I do not understand. If the recall is on "certain" steering columns and not all (for the same year models), why not just do what you did on the ones not being recalled? Shouldn't the "fix" already be a known thing? Unless it really is for all of them, then in which case, they should just say its everything we have, sorry guys.

So does this impact all 2018-2024 Wranglers or just certain ones?

Unknown at this time, I believe. Clearly they found that at least one of the lots of these submodules had QC problems.

It sounds to me (just guessing) that they have a way to test for this problem but they don't necessarily have a large enough batch of "known good" submodules for the whole fleet (hence no "remedy") so their stopgap solution is to bring you in, test your submodule and if it's bad they replace it with one that doesn't test bad -- maybe discarding a few in the process.

Cool, so now when i crash and burn because my clutch that they still don't deem to be important enough to fix explodes, i won't have an airbag deployment either! :)
Exactly. In the same boat. Still waiting on parts for the manual 3.6V6 clutch and it’s been like 2 years already. Great to hear I now have two potential methods of dying. 🥳

I never wore seatbelts until the 90s. No airbags in much of anything before that. Somehow or another, the vast majority of us lived. I got in some pretty bad wrecks too. These days you hear people melt down that they were almost killed, when their vehicle wasn’t even contacted.

Back to the subject at hand. Here we are about 2.5 years post pandemic (depending on where you live), and they still can’t get the parts supply issues fixed. That excuse is starting to wear thin.

Neither my Wrangler nor the Wagoneer have had any lights. No letters in the mail except for the frame stud on mine. I’m certainly not dropping it off at the dealer for that or losing a second sleep over it.

when my Jeep was at the dealer for corrosion a few months back they took care of the recall for the Electronic Control Module. Just looked up my vin on both the Jeep and NHSTA site. No open recalls on my vin.

I feel you there. I miss the good ole days of no nannies. Why do I need a safety net for everything? We all made it just fine and we probably did crazier stuff then than we do now lol.
