I am the second owner of Olaf; I purchased him just 48 hours after discovering my first Jeep, Dory the 392XR, was stolen from DFW airport. The previous owner, @iddpaul, built a great rig and took immaculate care of Olaf, but needed to upsize to a Gladiator to tow a new trailer and posted Olaf on the forum classifieds. Olaf had not sold after a couple of weeks and was set to be traded in at the dealership, destined for a future of underappreciation. I discovered my 392 stolen on a Tuesday, found Olaf here on the classifieds on Wednesday, flew from DFW to Tampa, FL, on Thursday afternoon to purchase, and then drove it 17hrs home on Friday.

Upgrades made by Paul before my purchase:
  • Full XPEL PPF on front, hood, pillars, front and rear fenders, plus full ceramic coating and front window tint
  • 17" Dirty Life Roadkill Beadlock Wheels, 4.45 Backspace, 37/12.5/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers
  • EVO MFG 3.5" Enforcer Overland, Stage 4 Plus, w EVO Spec Kings
  • King Steering Stabilizer
  • RK Front Spring Pad Correction
  • Synergy HD Sway Bar End Links
  • Synergy Front Track Bar Brace & Sector Shaft Brace
  • JKS ACOS Front and Rear Adjustable Coil Spacers
  • Steersmarts Yeti Tie Rod and Drag Link
  • Adams 1350 Front and Rear Driveshafts
  • Reid Racing knuckles
  • Currie LP60 and HD60 semi float 1 ton axles (4:88/elockers)
  • EVO extended stainless brake lines
  • Savvy Magnaflow axle back exhaust
  • FabFour Stubby Front Bumper
  • Next Venture Motorsports Rimrocker Rear Bumper
  • Maximus3 Spare Tire Carrier
  • Currie axle skid plates / covers
  • Poison Spyder Rocker Knockers / Body Armor
  • Rigid Front Bumper Floods / Pillar Rigid D-SS Pro
  • Warn EVO 12-S Winch / Synthetic Rope
  • Factor55
  • Genesis Dual Battery / Gen 3 Power Hub
  • Tazer JL Mini, Tazer Z-Locker Controller

First fill up before starting the 17hr drive back to Texas!

Paul had purchased but not installed a full Artec Aluminum belly skid kit. I am impressed with the quality of the skids and hardware; the instructions were also very detailed. The installation went well, with no major hiccups. I'm looking forward to getting these scratched up in Hot Springs next week!

The first add-on slated for installation next week is an Innovative AT four-tire inflation system. I had one on my 392 and absolutely loved it; this time I'm going to try out the ARB pressure control unit as opposed to the manual valve and pressure gauge. More installs and wheeling photos to come!

I completed the first round of mods for our first major outing in Olaf to Hot Springs, AR.

  • Rugged G1 ADVENTURE SERIES Waterproof GMRS Mobile Radio JL Kit
    • Overall, I'm impressed with the radio's audio quality, and the customized harness for JL installation is a nice feature. I am not experiencing rouge interference like I was with my GM25 that was installed on Dory.
    • Jeep Wrangler JL Olaf: The 2020 JLUR Rebound Jeep IMG_5968
  • Innovative AT Products 4-Tire Air System (Bluetooth) with ARB Twin Compressor
    • I had the non-Bluetooth version of this inflation system in Dory, and I absolutely loved it. This kit has received some minor improvements to equipment and installation techniques since my first purchase. No more drilling holes in your seat frames, and the air line routing has improved.
    • The ARB compressor control module and app are nice, though not perfect. The air-down process is notably slower than using the manual version of the kit or using a valve stem-removing deflator. The app's benefit is that you can set it and forget it. If you know you won't be wheeling for a while, you can use the app to set the deflation pressure and then walk away. The system will automatically stop deflating at the desired psi, even if you are nowhere near the vehicle.
    • Airing tires up with the app is essentially the same time as doing it manually of the ARB Twin compressor. Again, the primary feature is setting the desired pressure and walking away. You can also set the app to max pressure and use the compressor as you would without the app/module.
    • Jeep Wrangler JL Olaf: The 2020 JLUR Rebound Jeep IMG_5972
  • Hot Heads Headliners OEM Headliner Completion Kit
    • Color matching looks better in real life than in the photo. Please give me as much sound deadening and thermal insulation as possible.
    • Jeep Wrangler JL Olaf: The 2020 JLUR Rebound Jeep IMG_6013
  • Metal Cloak Durospring Rear Upper Bump Stops
    • These bumps have a nice progressive feel vs. the BANG! of the OEM bumpers. Olaf is rubbing in the inner fenders at full bump, and I was hoping these would add just enough stack height to eliminate the rubbing. They did not stop the rubbing, so I will try deforming the fender liner next.
    • Jeep Wrangler JL Olaf: The 2020 JLUR Rebound Jeep IMG_5974
  • Mopar Xtreme Recon Fender Flare Extensions
    • I don't know how much they help stop debris from the tires, but Dory was an Xtreme Recon from the factory, and I like how they look with wider tires and lower offset wheels, so I added them.
    • Jeep Wrangler JL Olaf: The 2020 JLUR Rebound Jeep IMG_6012
  • Olaf Decal
    • Jeep Wrangler JL Olaf: The 2020 JLUR Rebound Jeep IMG_6014

The next major install will be PSC hydro assist steering here in a couple of weeks.

Can you do a brief comparison between the Artec belly pan and the one you had on Dory? I don’t think many folks have experience with multiple brands.

After our first big trip in Olaf to Hot Springs I observed my wife struggling to steer the 37s at 9psi whenever we were in situations where there was pressure on the front of the Jeep. “Her” LJ already has hydro assist steering and since we trade Jeeps back and forth when wheeling as a family I determined I must upgrade my Jeep “for her”…so…

I’m about 8hrs into installing a PSC cylinder assist steering kit. I called PSC and asked about the pros and cons of the electronic pump kit vs the mechanical pulley pump kit and they steered me directly to the mechanical route.

PSC used to be located about 50yds from my office, but they have now moved north, and I had to drive a few miles to go pick up the kit. I ordered over the phone and drove over to pick it up, you can’t beat that!

Next time you plan on heading to Hot Springs hit me up, I’m in NEOK. Went there over the summer to do the badge trails, and want to go back to hit some other ones.

I saw the for sale ad shortly after it was posted and thought it looked like a great price considering all the upgrades. But I didn't need another Jeep and I'm all the way across the country.
Congrats!

Updated. Looked back at the original "For Sale" ad on this Jeep. BradyW, you got a once in a lifetime deal on this Jeep with all those mods pre-installed. Congrats.

I would have trouble going from a 392 to anything else but a built Jeep like that would make a hard decision.

So far I’ve removed the stock power steering pump and lines and installed the PSC pump and new serpentine belt. Next up is removing the OE steering gear and installing the PSC steering gear. Currently the drag link is extremely stuck on the pitman arm so I stopped by Harbor Freight at lunch and picked up a pickle fork set. So far a 3ft pry bar, torch, and hammer technique has been inadequate. I’m hoping to get the system up and running by the end of the weekend…hoping.

All the goodness loaded up with some new ball joints as well. Why does it need ball joints? That’s a different post, not this one…
