Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the warning chime that sounds when you are downshifting from 3rd to 2nd telling you a shift to 1st isn’t available?
I understand the meaning for it, but when I’m at a speed above what seems like 25 mph and shift into the 1-2 gate to drop to 2nd from 3rd it chimes in. I would like to disable this if possible.

Does it stop as soon as you pull it into 2d gear? I'm just curious, as mine has the Auto, and my previous manual transmission vehicles are from the early 2000s and 90s, so I've never heard of this.

Yes, as soon as it’s in 2nd it stops; and it only chimes once overall. It just serves as a warning to let you know that it’s not going to shift to first when you’re moving at that speed.
It’s not the end of the world if I can’t disable it, but if I can I would like to know how to.

Yeah, I just haven't driven the JL with a Manual before, its just an interesting feature. I've never tried to do a 3rd to 1st downshift so I'm not sure how my old Dakota would have reacted to that.

Ok, driving home after work I noticed it once more, so I tried to pay attention a little closer to when it happened. I was wrong about 25 mph, it was when trying to shift from 3rd to 2nd while going over 30 mph that it comes up.

I tried to take a video, but couldn’t take the video, shift and steer in a safe manner. I did snap a pic though where I discovered I was going 34 mph when I tried to make the shift, which is maybe a little faster than I should be going when trying to downshift to 2nd.

When I got home I looked in the owner’s manual, and it does recommend downshifting to 2nd at under 30 mph, and did not mention anything about how to turn off the “Shift to Gear 1 Not Allowed” warning. Anyways I’ve attached a screen shot of the owner’s manual section explaining the recommended downshift speeds.

The warning isn’t a big deal if I can turn it off, and if anything it made me look in the owner’s manual where I discovered I may be shifting to 2nd at too high of a speed, so there’s that.

I’ve never heard or seen anything about these warnings on my MT JL

JL?
I get it.

Mostly when I'm coasting to a red light and the gear handle is in neutral and I'm playing with the handle.

+1 for being able to disable the chime.
+1 for not really caring one way or the other.

I’ve never coasted in neutral. Got to do it to see the warning. I don’t see the purpose of such warnings.

Yeah I’ve noticed this since the day I test drove one. Happens when the shifter is moved left into the 1/2 gate at speeds above 30mph. I do it all the time as a habit of making sure the shifter is in neutral (just shake the shifter side to side). I’ve been doing this on all my vehicles for 30+ years so it’s going to be a tough habit to break.

Older vehicles tended to “stick” in some gears, so I would take it out of gear and shake the shifter side to side quickly to make sure I was in neutral. The JL doesn’t like that and chimes at me.

Not sure if there’s a way to disable it, but I’d love to know.

To prevent clutch/tranny/engine damage by over-speeding and stressing them beyond their design parameters.
Wow. How have we lived without for so long? Never heard of that kind of damage from people that know how to drive or I must be the luckiest guy.

First post finally! I'm experiencing the same warning but I get it on up shifts as well from 2nd to 3rd above 32 mph which is really annoying!

My 1992 saturn accomplished the same thing without an alarm by simply blocking any attempt at shifting into too low of a gear (Or reverse).
