I have 4K miles in my 2 door JL and have noticed that the vehicle sometimes holds 1st gear well into 12-14mph. Under normal conditions (95% of the time) the car properly shifts to 2nd at around 8mpg. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?

It’s just annoying because it feels like the vehicle is holding back and revs more than it should.

I work for a CDJR dealer as a service technician. Been a Master for 40 yrs. If you have the 8spd ZF trans. That sounds about right depending on throttle position. Under light throttle it should change gears at about 10mph. Are the shifts smooth up and down ?

Thanks for the response! I’d say it’s pretty smooth - it doesn’t jerk or anything.

I had my valve body replaced 1k miles in so I think I’m just critical of anything now. It would make sense if it’s throttle response as I drive with a heavy foot. Usually shifts around 8mph when I’m being mindful of mpg but I’ve seen it stay in 1st going towards 14mph even when I’m light on the pedal (at lease I think so lol)
