Don't agree with you.

Now, to be clear, I have a 392, and take it on the dunes most weekends.

But my wife has a JK, and it never sees dirt. It looks good, is a convertible, sits up high, has 4wd for the winters, and has the features she likes.

That's like saying if you own a Corvette and you don't race it, you bought the wrong vehicle, or you bought a Prius and don't hyper mile it, you bought the wrong vehicle.

I believe that any car can be for any person, who cares. If everyone only bought what we needed for our exact purposes, and nothing more, the auto marketplace would be a really boring place.....

I also have a 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis. Did I get the wrong vehicle just because it's not full of people every time I drive it? Or what about my 1997 pickup, is it wrong of me to drive it when the bed isn't full of stuff ALL the time?

Nope - but to each his own.....
But is she complaining about the ride? The road noise? The steering wandering? The main point is about those who buy a Jeep, and complaint about it not being like the BMW they traded in.

I grew up with a muscle cars, jeep and dunebuggy. I hated driving my Dad's Lincoln Continental. I like the firm ride and like that I can take my JL on a trail or on the beach. I appreciate the improvements made since the family jeep growing up was a 47 Willys rag top and no doors. We loved it. Wish my Dad could ride in my Jl, he wouldn't belive. it. Happy with what I have.

Nope, not even a little bit. Lots of cars on the beach even. But, that's definitely not all I do. I had it in Hot Springs before I ever had plates on it going on trails and seeing what it was capable of. Since then, I've been to almost everything here in Texas, and across to NM quite a bit.
Fair enough I guess. Just saw some photos of a Jeep posing on the beach, posing on a little rock by a perfectly smooth dirt road and driving down something that looks like the shitty rutted-out country driveways all around here and really wasn't sure what to make of the editorial.

If some little old grey-haired grandma enjoys looking "cool" driving to Thursday night bingo at the firehall in her honkin' big-ass 4-door JLRD with a 3" lift, 37" mudders, $20k portals and brand-name recovery gear, then God Bless her and I hope she enjoys every damn minute of it 🤗

I dunno.

Didn't buy mine to "off-road" for sport, didn't buy it to look "cool" Really don't care too much why you or anyone else decided to buy one or how you actually use it and quite frankly, it's none of my God damn business to be telling other people how they should or shouldn't be spending their hard-earned money and precious little time on this earth.

However,

“The Gym” was a joke, actually it’s getting Mexican take out. Don’t want it cold excuse, so I order and wait at the bar, DosX Ambar and Modelo Negra are favorites. The Italian place has Alaskan Amber, another favorite that’s hard to find. Uh, they have food too, I volunteer to get it to relax with a couple while I wait. …. The Gym idea from a local “The Office” tavern. 🍻

No, she knows what she is in for, with a Jeep.

If she did complain that would be like moving next to a pig farm then complaining about the smell.

I won’t own a Japanese car. And they can’t tow a trailer like a Gladiator. You can only take the top off of those things ONCE, with a sawall. You were right about one thing, they are definitely ‘cheaper’. We like Jeeps, not cars. My wife would be embarrassed to drive around in one of those little POS’s. She gets compliments everywhere she goes on her Gladiator, and she looks great in it. It’s a Jeep thing, maybe you DONT get it. I
Wait, are you talking about the same Japanese vehicles that routinely go 250k+ miles without a single issue being “POS”? I can nearly guarantee your Gladiator, or my Wrangler, won’t approach that mileage without issues. You might be able to justify a Jeep in some way or another, but build quality, reliability, and longevity definitely aren’t it.
Plenty of better options if you want to tow. But that’s a whole another discussion….

Thats a perfect example of the crazy lengths Jeep people will go to justify their purchase and for some reason cant just admit maybe a Wrangler and its variants arent the best option in any category other than off road performance.

For sure. Jeep’s marketing department must be proud of themselves reading this thread. I once had a Jeep engineer tell me that 90% (I can’t remember the exact number) of Wranglers never hit a dirt road, and they engineer the vehicle partially upon that data (when I asked why Jeep still puts Dana 35s in them still). I’m not sure I believed it until now.

As much as I loath the 4 door its the only reason I could get the JLR so it is what it is. Just wish more people were self aware enough to be able to just admit its not as great of a vehicle as they want to believe outside of the dirt lol.
