I had the 4xe and traded it for a custom ordered XR. 4xe was great until all the recalls started coming in which included a battery recall that had no repair. In fact, I traded it in last November and they can't sell it until a fix is done. Been sitting on their front row lot for "public observation"! I love my XR and even with the evo 10s winch, it is fine. I went for the v6 with the CAI for growl. Super happy with my purchase and it was a bargain in my case for what I got and how I will use it.
On the 4xe, it had great power but being an electrical contractor and driving all over the place, the economy wasn't worth the cost of extra tech. My wife used it more as her commuter to get the mileage up to 31 but why would someone spend 60+k on a commuter? On paper it sounded great and it did perform well in my case until we towed it around the country and had to deal with limp modes and a dead battery at each stop. That alone was a bummer.

4xe is a waste of money. Worthless. Embarassing in fact. Somehow there are people who think 3 miles of EV range off road at the cost of nearly 1000lbs and $14,000 makes sense. It's a head scratcher to this very day.

White Willys XR. Looks awesome and got all the good stuff for less money.

I didn't buy the XR for the lift or wheels and tires. I bought it because I wanted the thicker front axle tube ( 10mm instead of 6mm), the steel knuckles instead of aluminum knuckles, the 4.56 gears, and the bigger brakes. I can sell the XR wheels and tires and pretty much offset the cost of the XR package. Already had wheels and tires off my previous Jeep.

Personally, I like the steering box and driving feel of the xtreme recon. Its hard to describe the nuanced differences without driving one. I’d choose a 3.6 xr over a ecodiesel or 4xe rubicon. Its worth the money. I’m quite happy with my 2.0 xr.

First off who would have ever thought there would be such a thing a basic Rubicon?:CWL:

MY goal is to run 35s winch, steel bumpers, led lights, one-touch top, aux package, tow package cold weather and leather seats 35-inch tires no aftermarket lift

I am trying to decide what to do, I was all set on the xr rubicon with fulltime 4wd option and the one-touch roof mainly because I wanted to keep it simple. 456 gears etc. Factory etc.
But after reading all 27 pages of XR observations seems like going that route still means I will need to replace sporing and shocks in order to add a winch ( planning on ordering the steel bumpers package) to recover some of the up travel lost due to sag of the front due to winch weight?

So now I am wondering if the 4xe might be a better way to go but I don't think that can be ordered with a full-time 4 whl drive? and I am not sure about the electric part plus I don't think I like turbo motors. So somebody please educate me on why a 4-cly turbo will last the 200k miles I want it to. DO I need to run 89 gas on a turbo?

Probably won't go with a diesel because it adds too much $$ to the and I don't think fulltime is an option?

So should I just go basic rubicon with a fulltime option and will I need to add springs and shocks to support a winch there as well?

So please shoot me your suggestions and why?
Attached is the 2018 JLUR that I traded in on JTR also attached. Why do this you ask? I want something a little lower that I can take the top down and because I tend to go off on my own the most capable and reliable option .

Sounds to me like you should just get an XR rubicon. The 4XE is great but if your typical daily drive is alot greater then 24 miles it doesn’t make sense. On top of that you will have to modify it for what you were wanting, where the XR comes with almost all of it.
The 4 cylinder is a nice little motor with some decent pep. It does however sound terrible like a ratttly can. I always despise when the motor kicks in when electric runs out. If you don’t care to much about power I would go V6 if they are still available.
