Since my 2 door is looking to be bought back, ive been looking at replacement and with prices of used 392 coming down i can get one for similiar price what i paid for my 2 door. Ive been looking at them and trying to decide if the xr package is worth getting? Mainly its the gearing im wondering about if the 4.56 gears make that much of a differnce compared to the 3.73. Currently i have 4.88 in my 2 door and i run 37" tires these would be put on the 392.
Thanks for your help.

I have been having electrical issues where everything goes crazy, been to the dealer 5 times in 6 months. Last time I took it into them they said there was no codes found and couldn’t recreate the issue picked it up on Friday drove it around 200 miles and it started doing it again on that Monday and they have had it every since been a little over a week this time. First time they changed the star connector, second time the battery. Got a call from them last week saying they changed a few things but didn’t think it fixed the problem and was going to road test it. Sadly it doesn’t even have 16000 miles on it yet and everything started about 5k miles ago.

Yeah it is said I hate to let it go, unfortunately it’s got the point I don’t know I can trust it even if they do find the problem. Hate to be up in the mountains some place and it acts up then I’m stuck.
I’ve been looking at some punk’n 392 one is close but non xr for an ok price the other is a little farther away but it’s a 20a with less then 1500 miles on it but the price is a little high.
Funny thing as much as Gary and my jeep like a like and we tend to go to the same dealer we have never meet lol.

I've been searching for a Punk'n 392 as well. But I don't think I will bite on them. There's an AEV one here in TX.

Nice, I’ve been debating if I want another punk’n or not. I have all the orange stiched interior panels from the Mojave that I was in the process of of swapping out, just needed to install the steering wheel and air bag cover I got made. I am looking at other colors as well it does seem punk’n carries a premium over other colors but I’m looking at reign, hydro blue and sting grey also.

Need to fix that shit!

The Punk'n 392 didn't move much on price once I sat down to buy it, so don't hold your breath. Nice Jeep though.

I've had electrical issues and can never trust my seats to fold back if I dare to fold them forward. I don't think my electrical gremlins are as bad as yours though. Stereo keeps going into reboot loops. Dealer recommends removing the MBQuart stereo upgrade bits.

I think yours can be more like @Joe's_Roxy and I think they had to replace some of these connections behind the glovebox?

They replaced the green star connector the first time around seemed to have fixed the problem for about 2500 miles or so. Yeah have to wait to see what happens with the buy back before I can really move on any of them. I did see that 392 has came down about 2k since I first looked at it. The other one I’ve been looking at the 20a has dropped about 10k since they started trying to sell it back in July of last year.

If you can find an XR version at a decent price I'd go for bit, particularly if you'll end up with 37s as they come with 4.56 gears.

My 24 392 comes stock with the XR package and too be honest it's almost overgeared for the small 35s it comes with.

I'm upgrading soon and feel a 37/38 inch tire will be the ideal setup for an all rounder.

ThebMin benefit are the gears so take that into consideration when you shop, how much more are the XRs vs an independent shop doing the regear for you.

Think the steel knuckles, thicker front axle tube already come with tye non xr392 but don't quote me on that

Love the motors on those, but they would need a lot more money to get to where my little two door gets without drama.

Thinking about the t-case and axles, I'd want to replace both and that just tacks on another $25k or more off the bat. Should have come with D60's from the factory IMHO. Blowing out a t-case on the trail because it uses a clutch pack doesn't sound like fun to me.

One of the reasons I continue my search for a 2024 or 2025 Rubicon. The floating rear axle giving it a 5k tow rating as well as the XR package coming with 4.56 gears from the factory has me more interested.

The 2.0's have been out there long enough that I'm comfortable going with one this time.

That’s the big deciding factor is the gears, since I already have 37 those will get mounted shortly after I get it. And I also have a 392 xr suspension I can through on if I wanted not that big gives much difference compared to non from my understanding.

I feel the same way I would want to swap axles and tcase on the 392 if I get one just don’t know how far down the road that would be. There is a fathom blue 2dr rubicon x down in the springs with the 35” tire package and 2.0l if been keeping my eye on. I just don’t know how I feel about 2.0.

not worth the effort to throw on a XR lift on the non XR.

I've done some pretty aggressive trails with my stock XR to the point where I hit a rock so hard it pushed in my Metalcloak skidplate against the exhaust crossover and had to pull it back out.

The stock XR doesn't flex well and the shocks are mediocre at controlling the weight over rough terrain.

I'm adding a lift, shocks and tires (leaning towards MT BB ATs) later this year as a result.

In my view the stock axles will cope well enough as long as you don't have a "hold my beer" right foot.

I do love the Fathom Blue!

Test drive the 2.0L. I think it's better for up here in the hills. Peppy.

Can't comment on how it would do in tricky wheeling as I haven't had the pleasure yet. The 3.6 with manual is low drama with 4.88's. Love it except I need a better clutch.
