Wont Start

This one has me stumped.

Starting last fall on my 2019 it would not start using the push button.
It would how ever start using the remote start.
After it started the first time using the remote start it would work using the button until it cooled down and then you would have to use the remote again.

Over the winter we replaced the PDC (power distribution center).
We did find some issues but it did not resole the issue.

A couple pf weeks ago I started getting a right rear tail light out. (this would come and go)

Then this morning I tried starting it with the remote start and got "HOOD OPEN" on the dash and it would not start. (with remote or button)
Disconnectd the 2 pin buttons at the front. NO go
I switched the buttons. NO go

Both arteries were replaced in Sept 2022

I hooked up my scan tool and found these codes.

I checked the can bus behind the glove box and all all the plugs seam to be pushed in OK. (I didn't take anything apart)

Im going to disconnect the battery next.

Thoughts or ideas.

You've got two separate issues here. Your secondary hood switch is failing which is why your remote start stopped working. On the driver side of the vehicle you'll see two plunger style switches under the hood. Replace them both, as either or could be causing the issue. They're cheap.


As for the other issue does the vehicle start when you physically use the key fob to press the push button to start the vehicle? It's possible either the key or interior passive entry sensor is not properly detecting the key. You do not have any codes to indicate an issue with the entry system, so I'd imagine it's a key issue. Pressing the key against the start button bypasses the keyless system and uses the NFC chip in the key to start the vehicle.

Sounds like a body control module to me (BCM). They can cause weird issues. The green canbus connector is also a known issue. Everything can looked plugged in it can still be faulty.

Update:

Pulled the ground cables and let it sit.
While I ws waiting I pulled the 2 hood switches (Checked for continuity, both are dead)
Reinstalled the ground cables and used jumper's on the 2 hood switches.
Tried the remote start and it worked. (forgot to try the key 1st)
Will try the key in the morning with the jumpers and if it works will try with the switches to see if it was the battery or the switches.

Come on dealer, those switches can be tested in about 15 seconds.

The switches stick causing intermittent function. We've had like four different RRTs to replace them across different models because of this. It is a VERY common failure, and replacing the switch fixes it every single time.

But go ahead, test it, see that it works, then keep scratching your head as to what the problem could be.

Test the switches this morning and both were dead. 2 on order.
For now just using jumper wires to keep me going.
