Did you have to pull the inner fender liner to get to it?
Pulling the fenders off is easier and quicker. You just unbolt 4 bolts and pull the fender away. The inner fender liner comes with it.

Yes I did it while the fender liner was off, you just need access to the plug, you can also tap in on the fender side provided you follow the wiring diagram.

When I first read your post, I thought..."yeah, whatever." Then I YouTubed it and damn, you're right! LOL. Found a couple of great videos on it. I ordered some those clips off of Amazon "juuuuust" in case some of them break.
