The advantage of a Wrangler is that it allows you to impove it easily! And you should to your likes! It is part of the fun and the adventure.
Add sealant/rubber between windshield and sportbar to dampen the noise for example.
Maybe fill the inside of the windshield frame with polyurethane foam through some of the holes (or drill them if needed)?
Stick some 3M film to the outside of the windshield window.

Exactly. You nailed it with the description and where the sound seems to come from. Now to start working on a solution or just accept it as normal. If you work up a solution let us know. I will do the same

The noise has to be the vent cover. I did notice while detailing her, that is was slighly loose fitting.

Most wind noise seems to be coming from Pillar area, both sides. I'm going to try some door molding in the joints to see if makes a difference.

Yes, agree with your assessment. The A pillars to be exact. I don't believe it's coming from high, dead center of the windshield at the connection to the roof. Sounds more like high to mid on the A pillars, to me.

There's a quick fix on another thread, here. I've just not attempted it yet.

A quick test is to tape off the seams around the A pillar with masking tape and drive on the hwy.

Picked up a new Sport S JL for my son. I noticed more wind noise than my Rubicon JK. I have read all of the posts in another thread about this and see where there may be an alignment issue. My real question is about the rain noise. It is VERY loud and sounds like a popping or static sound that is amplified. I mean crazy loud. Tonight he and I were adding some add on parts and I looked at the windshield. If you tap the top of the windshield frame with your fingernail and listen inside it sounds the same as the rain noise I am talking about.

I wanted to see if others are having this problem and, if so, what the solution is. I feel like it may be the two piece design for the fold down option. If there is supposed to be some molding that puts pressure on the window frame that would also dampen the sound, and ours is not touching the frame it could leave a gap so the sound resonates off the thin metal when rain hits it. Just a guess as to what may be going on here. I feel like others may have heard the same thing and already figured out the solution. Or we have an isolated incident that needs to be resolved by the dealership (don't really want to go that route due to past problems with service being clueless at times).

Other than that, we love the new design and the ride. Any ideas or solutions?
I drove mine for the first time in a pretty good rain shower and I noticed that it did not sound the same as my JK did. The conclusion I came to is the rain hitting the plastic cowl. that's where it seemed to eminate from when I was listening.

I believe the rain sounds louder on the freedom tops than it did in JK because the tops are "20% lighter". And maybe thinner too who knows........

Anyone have any luck in stopping the noise? If so what approach did you take? I have the 2018 JLU Rubicon and am getting the crackling popping sounds on the driver side somewhere near the A Pillar as well. Seems to be worse on cold mornings until the vehicle warms up so I'm wondering if it's the windshield... Also the sun visor makes some cracking type sounds when squeezed a bit so that too could be it, not totally sure yet.

Se7en, you mentioned a quick fix on another thread - do you have that link?

I noticed the "tinny" sound of the rain on the windshield immediately. Sounds very different from JK. It reminds me of the old plate glass windows in 100 year old houses, before they had laminated safety glass. In a way, it's kind of cool. Gives the Jeep a cool retro feel. But the reason it's happening is because FCA is using very thin glass on the JL to save weight. Everything on the JL is to save weight...the thin glass, the aluminum body, the smaller axles and tubes, the smaller tires on Sports, etc.

I noticed the rain noise too and am fairly certain it's from rain hitting the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield like txroamer said. It only happens when I'm driving in the rain, if I'm stopped and it's raining the noise goes away. No clue on how to fix it but living in Florida with our daily afternoon rain showers I've come to accept it.

Just an update here. I have heard the tin type noise that lookitsadam was talking about when it rains. That is different than what I have experienced which I've narrowed down to tying in with the front driver dash speaker. When the weather has been cold out and audio is on, it seems to make the windshield make small popping sounds periodically. Very strange. Might be just the vibrations of the audio on the windshield and going to the seams that's causing it. Anyway thought I'd clarify since my situation was a little bit different.

I noticed the same noise. Lots of wind buffeting and wind noise, then when the rain hit I thought it was hail. Lots of LOUD pops and cracks. Literally sounded like pebbles bouncing off the windshield. It’s was big ole far rain drops and I was on the freeway. When the rain lightened up and turned small, the noise did as well. Sport s with alpine system.
