Waiting on my White Rubicon JL with Heritage leather, debating btwn 15% or 20% all around—curious to know if anyone else has the heritage interior and if affects the appearance of the tint (makes it look lighter) from the outside of the vehicle? Pics are always appreciated:like:

im about to have 3 vehicles tinted, including the jeep. is it possible to tint the soft top windows? bad idea?

i tint the entire windshield on all my vehicles. the strip at the top is useless. if anything, tint the entire windshield in a light tint, then do a strip across the top to make it seem like that's all there is. only one time ive had a cop realize my windshield was tinted. he gave me a ticket for my front door windows but let the windshield go. this was on a black crew cab f150 with black leather. the side windows were probably 35 or less so it was dark. never had issues on my other vehicles.

will probably do 50% on the windshield on the jeep, with 35 on the windows, maybe even 50 all around

You’re correct, the lighter interior will make the tint seem slightly lighter from the outside. It’s a factor of how much light gets in to the vehicle in the first place, and then how much reflects back off the leather vs is absorbed (we know tan will reflect more light back than black will).

Hopefully someone with photos can share theirs for perspective. It’s very hard to do an apples to apples comparison, unfortunately.

This was my JK with 20% on the front door glass, 5% over the factory tint on the sides and 20% of factory tint on the rear glass with SunTek window film. Started with Lumar window film and wasn’t happy with the performance, it didn’t reject heat that well. Six years later the SunTek does a good job of rejecting heat and hasn’t faded.

When (or if) my JL arrives, I plan to do the same only with 3M. Not that I wasn’t happy with the SunTek film, I just feel like driving up to West Allis, WI to have the Jeep tinted again. More so since my employer won’t let me collect mileage for working out of our nearby office...

I have the heritage leather in my Sahara. I posted a picture a few posts back with my tint. 15% on the front to match the rears. It's still pretty dark even with the interior. However, I imagine it would appear slightly darker if my interior was dark as well. I love it though.

It looks great! I am under the impression that the back comes from the factory at about 20%, so just to clarify, did you ask your tint shop to give you 15% or just to match the back?

They matched the back (what they said) so they put 15% on the front. I'm guessing it was a closer match than 20%.

I went with Huper Optik + HU Klar in front for color matching and 0% on front glass. 30%. Not a cheap job $980ish but the heat rejection is incredible.

The stock rear glass has very little UV blocking, like under 39% when this is 80ish.

I didn't see a reply -if it's a hot area, absolutely
The top windshield strip is for glare reduction more so than heat rejection. If you’re looking for heat rejection, you’re best off doing a mild IR (ceramic) tint on the entire windshield (optionally, a darker strip at the top - though again, that’s really for glare reduction).

My guess is the rears are 20% but your shop probably did 15% on the fronts to account for the light coming in from the windshield - which makes the fronts look lighter than the rears. So, while not a % match, it’s likley a close “tint” match to the human eye.
