Thank you.

So the implication is that tires with a specification of 35" x 12.5" x 17" wheel diameter are actually all slightly different dimensions. :)

You will need a relocation bracket, otherwise the bottom of the tire will bump into the rear bumper.

I went with the Smittybilt spare tire relocation bracket: it pushes the spare tire one inch away from the tailgate and two inches up from the bumper. It is simple and inexpensive.

I upgraded from 285/28/17 to 315/70/15s on a non-XR Rubicon 392 and found the spare tire rubs on the rear bumper using only the Mopar Reinforcement Kit (82215356AC).

I plan to add the Mopar Oversize Spare Tire Carrier Mounting Bracket Kit (82215355AC) to address this.

A short term fix has been to remove the rubber pad on the top center of the rear bumper. That allowed the tire to fit, but it looks bad.

Another issue was the Rubber Stoppers that are supposed to contact the read tire to provide more stability do not reach the tire. The Oversize Tire kit looks to include longer Rubber stopped that I hope fit (contact / support the tire).

Thanks,
john

They do vary between tires. K02’s for example are notorious for being undersize in diameter

Some 35s fit others don't. We typically will recommend/install the TeraFlex relocation bracket. It allows for the entire carrier to be spaced out and up to clear the bumper while maintaining all OEM wiring and functions of rearview camera.

These brackets are great as long as you keep the tire/wheel weight down. Featherweight, easy install, only ~$150. I didn’t even unplug the wires as per directions. Just set the carrier on a residential dumpster. I got 59 lb Toyo AT3 35-12.50-C on stock 392 wheels and the total weight including brackets is ~the same as factory 285-70 MT’s, reinforcement not required. ? PS— relocation was required.

that's kinda funny, i wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference

On my rig 35psi doesn't clear the steel bumper without severe rubbing.

will depend on which wheel, which tire, and which bumper.
all are variables.

best to plan on doing something to manage the spare.

if you have 100% certainty that you're never going to go to a larger tire, the Mopar stuff works fine. if you're thinking of ever going to a 37s, the Mopar stuff probably will not hold the tire to where it clears the factory bumper, and the tailgate will likely be tweaked by the extra weight.

moving directly to a proper frame-mounted tire carrier like the Teraflex or an aftermarket bumper with a tire carrier would be something you might consider to save the cost of upgrading through some other less optimal options on the way to what works.

Like others said, best approach would be to plan on getting one. That said, if you have a plastic rear bumper it will probably fit. The metal rear bumper is ever so slightly taller in the middle part where the tire sits so a lot of those guys experience some rubbing.

You don’t wanna smooth out a flat spot on a tire before it even hits the ground haha

I've had a 315 Milestar Patagonia MT on there for like two years and am over a year in now on 37x12.50x17 BFG KM3s with stock tailgate and have no sagging or any other issues whatsoever. Pretty good amount of wheeling and long routes like Mojave road have been done with this setup.

The 315 didn't rub the OEM steel bumper - the 37s did initially but after removing the small piece of plastic in the spot where the tire rests on the bumper and doing their first 5-tire rotation, it doesn't rub too much anymore. Slightly rests on the ledge of the bumper.

I'd be ready to look at options if your specific config is crazy heavy (nittos on deadlocks, for example) or happens to rub but I wouldn't say it's required in all setups.

I just took delivery of a 2024 Willy's with backup sensors. I put my 35 KO2s on (I know they're a little smaller than 35), and the sensors keep going off/then I get a message that they won't work. Any idea if I use a relocator if this will help?

It will not help. The sensors still activate with my relocation kit.

The trick seems to be to put some clear packing tape on the tread of the bottom of the spare. Solved the sensor issue for me and others.
