In Ontario we do not get a tax credit or rebate, that whole scheme of paying people to drive over priced vehicles is a scam, also seems like the manufacturers mark up the price to factor in the government incentive.

Not sure that I'm on board with the capital gains. A vehicle is personal property, not a capital investment for profit. (unless you're a dealer).
Technically you would owe capital gains if you made a profit or in this case I would probably be just added income because you did not keep it for a year. The thing is you could deduct all your "expenses". For a few thousand dollars I doubt the IRS would ask too many questions.

not sure how "overpriced" they are considering I'm paying less for a loaded Sahara 4xe with the rebate than I would for its twin in a strictly gas configuration... and you get better looking (IMO) rims on the 4xe than the standard sahara

If only there was a 2 door version.......!
In the future I think they’ll offer one, as battery technology improves it’ll be easier to fit a smaller battery that offers even more range in the 2 door. I’m selling my car as soon as my Wrangler gets delivered so as a daily driver the 4Xe makes a lot of sense but the smaller tank, lack of 2 door and all that extra weight kind of kill it for me. I imagine in 5-6 years the 2 door plug in Hybrid will have over 30 miles of range.

Well ... I found the problem with stuck in "FORM" can even happen in pleasant Santa Cruz, CA. It's frequently caused by a stuck electric coolant heater and our dealer (after claiming that you "always need to warm up the 4xe to get electric mode", which is BS ... verified by Jeep customer care) finally found the issue, but the heater is back ordered with no ETA. For reference, the part number is 87580967. There are a total of 240 backorders! And of those, 176 are "special handling" (meaning get it here ASAP, my customer is screaming at me).

I definitely would have considered it if I drove to work daily--my commute is within its e-only mileage so maybe the gas motor wouldn't run at all, all way, if I plug in at night.

I've heard the gas motor goes on for various reason, even within the e-only range, though.

But since almost all of my trips are beyond the e-only range, I would be using the 2.0T motor most of the time anyway. The extra torque from the e-motor is impressive, but the 2.0T has plenty of hp and Torque for me. I'm overjoyed at the loads of generous performance from the 2.0T by itself.

Also, the disqualifier for me was that I was set on a 2door. I don't think it was offered in the 2door, IIRC.

What you're describing isn't form. There are some of these that have been having issues with with failure of the electric heater and it will lock you out of electric only use, but you should be getting an error message that says "Electric Mode unavailable. Cabin heating or cooling." It may or may not trigger a check engine light to go with it.

Similar symptom in that it limits electric only use, but not the same thing.

The resale is not crap at all for the 4xE.

There is the leasehakr forum where there is literally a 30K long forum on flipping the 4xE specifically. People are buying them and flipping them for 6-10K a pop. Definately no issues with the resale of the 4xE.
Everybody over the past two years has been making money reselling cars. That doesn't really say anything. Given the complications of the 4XE and its poor launch, it's doubtful to say it will age well which correlates with worse resale. Resale can be properly judged when the market becomes somewhat normal again.

I just ordered my 4XE Rubicon. Why?

1- I want to see if the wrangler platform works for me as a long term vehicle to replace my Tacoma. I plan on retiring in a few years and doing a lot of traveling. The other power train options don’t interest me except the diesel but it doesn’t fit my daily use.

2- My round trip commute to work is 18-20 miles depending on if I’m going to the lab or the test facility, well within the electric range.

3- I want to try a PHEV to see how I like that drivetrain long term.

4- It’s a cool tech toy and I’m an enginnerd ?

in The end I’m either going to have a fun toy that I sell because it isn’t the best for my retirement goals or a great way to travel and see the world (At least this continent). Or (fingers crossed) a giant headache lawn ornament that spends its time waiting on repairs and drives me back to a Toyota ?

Good grief- read the manual. FORM is for when you have been running mainly electric and there is risk of the fuel getting stale or the oil not circulating enough -it makes the engine run to burn some gas and heat up the oil.
Well, I think the problem is that some of the 4xe's are FAR too frequently going into FORM mode because of mechanical/electrical/software (pick one or all) problems. Mine rarely (like once every month for about a minute) did that until this fall, and then the battery coolant pump failed and the 4xe could not be driven (both Jeep corporate and the dealer said bad things happen to the battery if you do that), and even after that was fixed, it went into FORM mode almost constantly because a "battery coolant heater" failed. Ugh. Backordered. No ETA. Chrysler corporate customer support is trying to help. Ugh again.

What would you say is longish? At first glance, 17.5 doesn't seem that impressive. This past Sunday I drove 120 miles, going 75 in my '21 JT and got 16.5.

Edit: I'd be curious to know what that same trip would be at 75 mph vs 80 in the 4Xe.
Well, we didn't go 75 since we were towing a 3000lb travel trailer (with similar brick-like aerodynamics), but we averaged about 26MPG on a trip to central Oregon and back, charging the battery about half the days (when we weren't boon docking).

It went into FORM or it went into "electric mode unavailable" due to cabin heating or cooling?
