I bought one of each... The 4xe for my daughter who is a student. Her world is all within a 10 mile radius. My wife's High Sierra 3.6 arrived Saturday. We love the 4xe but opted for all gas for her ride. We live at altitude and it seems to perform better in mountain driving conditions than the 4xe.

Not doubting you but it sure seems like the 4xe ought to have quite a lot more power at altitude. You have a turbo on the 2.0 and electric. Turbos are usually a lot better at high elevation than normally asperated engines are. That and the Electric is not going to be affected either.

No haters please. What are the upsides? The two downsides for me are that the rear seats don't fold as flat as I would like for my dog crate and it will only go 25 miles or less on a charge.
Here are my reasons, in no particular order:
  • Tax credit. - I leased mine and got to apply the tax credit as cap reduction. I'm paying less than $300/mo which is way less than what my monthly would've been for finance. I'm probably going to end up purchasing at the end, so this may not end up being too much of a benefit.
  • Torque - Compared to the standard 6-cyl, all of my friends who own Wranglers agree that there's a noticeable increase in torque.
  • MPG - I do most of my driving locally during the week with longer drives on weekends. With a Level 2 charger, I rarely use gas on weekdays. My overall MPG in the past year is over 40 MPG.
  • Electric Motor - I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy driving in electric mode, especially on trails. It's not ton of power, but it's responsive and enough to get me where I need to most of the time. I like it so much, I'd seriously consider getting the all-electric Wrangler whenever Jeep releases it.
  • Parking - The least expected benefit has to be parking. Some of the best parking in CA are reserved for handicapped and EVs. I've been able to park right in front of stores, malls, Disneyland, often with free charging!
  • Cool factor - My wife and I pulled into valet parking at a fancy restaurant. At the end of the night, the valet brought out my 4xe and told me it was the favorite car he drove that night. And this was a restaurant with Ferraris and Bentleys parked up front.
But I'm sure you'll find your own reasons once you've owned it for a while.

All the above sounds good BUT
After owning one and it going into the shop at 900 mile with 35 codes, no one really knowing how to
work on them and parts availability shitty. Took about 4 week for the dealership to get the part when I was able to get the OEM part online after I started looking for it in less then a week.
After getting out of the shop for no reason 3 time it would not start and left my wife and grandkids stranded. At that point in time contacted Dealership tolled them to ordered 2022 JL Diesel
Sold back to dealership Lost $7000.00, but don't have to worry about leaving my loved one Stranded

Biggest Pile of S__T I ever bought Wouldn't recommend to my Wurst Enemy

Hate to see this - sounds like you unfortunately got a lemon. Fully understand your opinion given your experience though - I hope the diesel works well for you. Best of luck.

What I was trying to say was when I ordered mine, with the $7500, I ended up being about $3000 less as the 4xe was about$4000 more than a similar equipped. Last I looked the 4xe was quite a lot more expensive than a standard gas Wrangler.
The 4xe holds that same $4k advantage in resale value though? You didn't lose $4k of the rebate. Yes you only paid $3k less than a comparably equipped gas wrangler, but you got $7,500 more value for $3k less.

Of all the engine options, the NA 3.6L is the worst at altitude. NA engine lose 3% of power per 1,000' of elevation. Forced induction engines lose 1%. Electric motors lose 0%. At 10k' the 3.6 is down 30%, the 2.0t and diesel are down 10%, and the 4xe is down less than 7% (295 ftlbs-10%= 265+175ftlbs from the electric motor=440.5). At altitude even the 392 is down to 329 ftlbs.

I have no idea what the resale value will end up being. I have a guess that lots of people here, who are thinking resale, are going to get burned when the market normalizes. I just looked at the rebate as a way to get the Jeep for a few thousand less than a gas one. I do think when the market goes back to normal the 4xe will sell for less than a standard jeep, on the resale market, as long as the Government still offers the rebate.
Now when the market goes back to normal is anyone's guess.

In Canada when I build out a base gas Sahara with the Standard equipment on the 4xe, the gas build is a bit more. I cannot do an exact compare, because the 2.0 eTorque isn't available as an option.

Some of big priced options that are standard on the 4xe and not on the gas is
1. Led
2. Selec trac
3. Leather
4. The eTorque component of the 2.0

These were nice options for me to have in my gas Sahara 3.6, but could not really justify the cost.

I would have also paid a premium just to get rid of that ESS in the gas Sahara, that ESS got on my nerves ,and it was the only thing I didn't like about my 2018 Sahara.

If the resale of the 4xe is crap, it should balance out for people like me that benefit from the electric only trips, right now I'm about 2/3 electric and 1/3 gas, I expect that to be more electric vs gas during late spring to early fall, when battery performance is better.

Poor resale was one of my considerations, but my thinking was, I'll either lose the money pumping gas, or might lose it on resale, or resale might be decent.

I just wasn't willing to keep pumping expensive gas.

Also I can get free ⚡, I cannot get free gas.

I can go 21 miles on $1.12 of electricity. I can go 21 miles on 1 gal of gas. I'm not Einstein, but I can figure out that gas has to be less than $1.12/gal to beat the electric cost. What am I missing here? Talk to me like I'm a ginger.
The 'formula' that makes the most sense. Even with gas at $3.50/gal (those were the days) your cost per mile driven is 1/2.

I'm not a fan of how they implemented the EV assist system, i.e. via a belt to the crankshaft. Would have rather seen it (electric motor) between the engine and transmission as some others have done. However, this does make it easily serviceable.

The resale is not crap at all for the 4xE.

There is the leasehakr forum where there is literally a 30K long forum on flipping the 4xE specifically. People are buying them and flipping them for 6-10K a pop. Definately no issues with the resale of the 4xE.

Your experience reflects what the folks around here are seeing as well. One girl got rid of hers in only a couple months because of ongoing issues.

Seems to be worth the hassle for a lot of people on there. I think it was a stronger market on the '21's but people have it down to a science.

Not sure that I'm on board with the capital gains. A vehicle is personal property, not a capital investment for profit. (unless you're a dealer).
