As long as you dedicate to plugging in you will avg 51+ mpge
You'll get ~50 mpge regardless of how often you plug it in, since mpge is only a measurement of the efficiency while in electric only. It isn't some combined fuel economy number that factors in time spent in gas vs time spent in electric.

You'll get ~50 mpge regardless of how often you plug it in, since mpge is only a measurement of the efficiency while in electric only. It isn't some combined fuel economy number that factors in time spent in gas vs time spent in electric.
However if you don't charge you won't have mpge. Staying dedicated can be a PIA.

Yes, one does need to run in electric only to have an mpge. More of what I was getting at was the common misconception that mpge is communicating a combined fuel economy while running as a hybrid rather than simply being a measurement of efficiency while in electric only. It'd be much better if they just called it mp-kWh, but that doesn't roll off the tongue as easily.

Those numbers are pretty meaningless. Of course a Jeep is less efficient. If you are after optimal efficiency buy an electric scooter.

Fusion per mile is about $0.08-0.10. Jeep about $0.16-0.20 per mile.
You only get ahead in the Jeep if gas is over $4/gallon. Otherwise you are losing money per mile to go electric.

Actually no I charge at all public stations which are free 365 24/7 so I'm in a gain all the time. However in SoCal under DWP in my zip and tier if I were to charge at home in be saving 1 fill per month which is currently 75$. And your ahead as soon as you own a Jeep!

Not to take over this thread as they asked benefits of purchasing a 4XE but your statement if flipped. 21ish is gas only not hybrid. 51ish is full hybrid e.g. l/km or 4.8/100. Full electric I average 25sih these are all non Max ReGen. This is all with a Mopar lift, 35" Trail Grapplers with full suspension mods.

This, of course, is an impossible statement to make without also knowing the local electrical prices to compare with local gas prices.
My calculation is based on my local electric rate of 14.5 cent per Kwh.
If you don’t believe me. Get a Kilowatt meter from Amazon. I did.
I knew exactly what the cost of my electric charges are for the past 5 yrs. The costs are higher in winter because of the inefficient charging in cold temperature, even in a non heated garage.
Its pretty easy to do.

Yeah, any Jeep is going to be less efficient, including the one in your profile pic.

My 4xe at worst is still more efficient than my 3.6 JLUR was. At best it is much better. I can recharge quickly after short trips around town. Electric driving costs me about half of what gas driving does, so not sure what you're talking about regarding losing money. We pay .12c-.13c/kWh.

This is incorrect and nonsensical if you look at what the information is actually saying and how the 4xe operates. Yes, I know that's how Stellantis put it on the window sticker, but it isn't even consistent with itself on the window sticker, much less with how the epa communicates things on window stickers.

The 4xe is rated at 49 mpge. Mpge is a unit created by the epa to describe efficiency in electric only operation. It is miles per gallon equivalent. One "gallon equivalent" is the equivalent amount of electrical energy stored in one gallon of gasoline; 33.7 kWh. What this is describing is the distance that the vehicle can travel, in miles, on 33.7 kWh of stored energy.

The 4xe has a usable battery capacity when in electric mode of about 15 kWh. If we use that to determine the number of gallon equivalents stored by the 4xe, we would divide 15 by 33.7 to get .46 gallon equivalents. Multiple that by the 49 mpge rating and we get the all electric range of the wrangler 4xe of 21-22 miles.

As mpge is a measurement of efficiency based on the electrical energy stored in the battery, to try to factor in a hybrid usage just doesn't make sense.

Here's where the window sticker doesn't make sense and where the conflict is:

They show "electric and gasoline" as getting 49 mpge, and break that down to 0 gallons of gas usage and 68 kWh/100 miles of electric. It can't be "gas and electric" with 0 gas usage. Further, they show this:

Showing the "electricity and gasoline" range up to 22 miles, but then directly contradict it with the all electric range being miles 0 through 21.

Further, as we know, the idea of a "gasoline only" section doesn't make any sense either, since the 4xe doesn't actually run on gasoline only ever. When the battery is at a <1% state of charge, it still behaves as a hybrid and uses both the gas and electric motors concurrently to proper the vehicle.

If we go to the EPA, we can see how this is actually supposed to be displayed:

this discussion is quite easy. if you can charge frequently and zip around the city this is a no brainer. especially with the cost at the pumps. i’m still sipping my first 1/10 of a tank this month. 0 in gas. it’s an acceleration beast. i don’t miss my old 2.0 stock at all.

Comparing the Wrangler to other vehicles is completely meaningless, just like trying to cross shop the Wrangler.

For starters the Tesla was built as an EV from the ground up, as for the Fusion I don't know anything about it, I didn't even know it existed, and I would not have even care about knowing anything about it, if I heard about it.

The Wrangler 4xe should only be compared with other Wrangler models in the line up, just like the Rubicon vs Sahara vs Sport etc.

Trying to compare any Wrangler to any other vehicle is a waste of time.

I for one used to pay at public chargers, after 3 months I have a feel for the Wrangler, and charge up for mostly free, I don't even bother charging to 100%, I'm just happy with keep topping up for free to 70%+, I have found 80%+ is just a time waster for me.

I have also stopped fiddling with the Hybrid | Electric | e-save as much, I'll hit e-save if I jump on a highway that is moving.

I have also never tried to entertain the idea of driving the 4xe pure electric, currently I'm running about 2/3 electric miles and 1/3 gas miles, I seems the majority of discontent and criticisms are people striving for electric miles to be 100% or very close to that, which is not what PHEVs are designed for, think there are other type of EVs that are specifically designed for 99% - 100% electric.

Laws governing owner maintenance are lacking
Lithium battery fire hazzard. We still do not have a way to put these fires out quickly and safely.

Check out Morris, IL -too many discarded Lithium batteries are catching fire in warehouses, at sea, and during transportation.
Just wait until you find out about fracking and oil drilling accidents.

At 14.5 cents per kWh, a full charge, which gives about the same range as a gallon of gas, is going to cost you about $2.50, so your $4/gallon threshold doesn't really make sense. Yah, things vary a bit seasonally, so the exact price will ebb and flow.

Even if that was the right number for your region, it wouldn't necessarily be the right answer for someone elsewhere. There are definitely places where electricity prices make charging a non-starter and there are other places where it's dirt cheap.

Break even on a Fusion Energi is about $2.00 a gallon.
Break even on a Jeep is about $4.00 a gallon
any gas price less than above, the EV car loses $ per mile vs gas

pretty easy to calculate the difference in costs.
also, pretty easy to calculate your cost per mile.

just remember to charge your Jeep with 68 kWh you will use anywhere from 75-80kWH Of energy, maybe more.
for example in summer it takes me about 6-7kWH to get 5 in my battery. Winter 7-8 kWH to get 5.

Please don't take this as being negative. It’s just the facts and science.
I would jump on the 4xE if it was more efficient. It just isn’t there yet.

Except it's wrong.

Let's use your numbers of 14.5 cents per kWh and $4 per gallon of gas.

The usable battery capacity on the jeep is about 15 kWh. For this, you get 21 miles of range. The 4xe is also rated at 20 mpg, meaning for that single charge for 15 kWh, you get the equivalent range of a gallon of gas.

15 kWh * .145 $/kWh = $2.175 for the equivalent range of 1 gallon of gasoline.

More accurately, if we assume $4/gallon of gas, you're paying $.105 per mile in electricity or $.20 per mile in gas. Now, you're right that there are some charging losses with actually getting 15 kWh into the battery, so let's assume 10% charging losses and say 16.5 kWh is needed for a full charge. That still puts your break even point at $2.40 for gas and your electric costs at $.12/mile.
