personally - I did a factory order to keep my costs down. Ya, I also get all the features I want/value - but it's the "shortest" path to getting an at-invoice or below-invoice price. you do wind up having to wait for it to show up (anywhere from 6-10 weeks) but if the only JLURs around are $48k and up, or don't have the features you want - its a good choice.

of course if you walk on a lot and there's one with exactly what you want, in the color you want, and you can get it negotiated to an under-invoice price - it'd be a much tougher decision.

but if I'm spending north of $40k, I want what I want, in the color I want, with the equipment I want - and without the equipment I don't. no need to settle when spending that much; it's representative of a lot of man-hours banging on a keyboard to earn it.

Rubicon 2.0L aren’t going to be available that much sooner - and body color hardtop w/ dual tops are super rare in California

You will also likely get a better price. Dealers have an allotment and once vehicles show up, they are paying interest charges for financing their allotment. So not likely to go below invoice pricing as you may have seen from the other Jeeps being ordered. Of course you do get your vehicle right away!
People at dealerships that I trust have said it's really a wash.

You are saving them from interest payments on existing inventory buy buying one off the lot, but an ordered vehicle literally costs them nothing as they don't have to make any payments on it as it will be sold as soon as it's delivered.

Purely to control the negotiations, get the best price possible and to buy from a completely transparent dealer that I trust. Went through a dozen+ dealers before I pulled the trigger.

I am obsessed with the posts of people getting their factory orders.

But i have to admit many of the builds seem to be similar to Jeeps readily available on dealer lots.

I think i am going to have to factory order to get my options (sting gray, premium soft top, manual sport s). But i would much rather just pick one out on a lot.

For those who are doing a factory order, why are you going that route?
Because you can save about. 5 k because there is no allocation

2004 Honda Accord coupe, V6 6-speed manual; ordered 2018 JL Sport 6MT with A/C and anti-spin. D status.
Echoing others, manual transmission. My local dealer had one manual of 80 wranglers.

Also, base model. I HIGHLY doubt I'll ever see a true base model, especially with manual, sitting around new.

With an order I can go base enough that the price is acceptable to me, and be picky about color to boot. Orange or blue, nothing else.

Painted hard top, painted fenders, no rubicon’s in NY, and the bigger 8.4 screen! Would rather wait a little longer and get what I want then jump the gun and kick myself!!
Yup

I have always purchased off the lot, and this will be my first factory ordered vehicle, because it's TOO damn customizable to find one exactly how you want if you're picky like me.
