Where's the oil filter?

I've been trying to find the location of the oil filter. I can't find any documentation or image that hints at where it would be. I did a cursory look at the engine bay of my JLU and I'm not sure, but I believe it would be right at the front of the vehicle, under the intake plumbing. I can't get a good look under there, though (it's in an awkward place). If I had a mirror or could squeeze my phone under there and take a pic, I would be able to better see, but I've been unsuccessful so far.

I'll try again tomorrow when I've more light.

Anyone have any idea where it's located?

Well, the oil filter on a 2.0 is a can type and it is down below.... unlike the 3.6 L's which is a cartridge and up top.

Annnd....nevermind. I found it. It's next to the oilpan underneath the vehicle.

I know the 2.0L Subaru engines have them up near the top of the vehicle. When I saw that canister under the intake plumbing, I assumed that was it.

You'd be doing some of us forum guys that are curious, a solid, if you could come back here with a pic of your oil filter and drain plug. Also, let us know if you have to remove an access cover to get to the filter and plug. Any info you can give / post here would be appreciated.

Why is it at angle? I always fill my filters with oil before replacement. The angle won't allow it to be full when it is replaced.

Shouldn't hurt anything if it's not full on first start. There's residual oil all throughout the engine and it'll circulate very quickly to replace as needed. I saw a demo a while back with a clear filter that showed just how quickly it fills, it really is a non-issue. Wish I could find it again, it was pretty cool to watch.

Exactly. Filling the filter isn’t necessary on any car.

Yes this is the Oil Drain Plug! Be careful when unscrewing, oil flow is quite strong.

Same with the filter.

Wow, both the filter and drain plug are easily accessible. Probably don’t even have to jack up the front end unless needed to fully drain the oil pan.
