Just my 2 cents. I’ve not traveled the whole US. But while I was in the service I was stationed at Peterson AF base in Colorado and I said I could easily live there.
My grandpa used to live in Colorado after he retired so my family would visit for a couple weeks every year until he passed. I absolutely loved it there! It's definitely on my short list as it seems to have everything we're looking for.

Haven't been in about 15 years or so, but I've been looking for an excuse to visit.

As much as many hate California, it is a year-round recreational paradise.
Living in northern LA County, I have the beach, lakes, mountain biking and skiing, let's not forget the desert, all within an hour or two drive. Not many other places enjoy such a range of accessible outdoor activities, most available any time of the year.

Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Pennsylvania, traveled all over for the Army and in the end came back to Pennsylvania. Central PA is great, my kids and wife are happy, but I have always been drawn to Washington state. In my particularly the Mount Rainier area.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time

Nope. PNW sucks. Stay away. We all hate it here and can't wait to get away. If you move here, you'll hate it too, so just don't...please :fingerscrossed: .

Lol, you’re safe. Wife will only live on the east coast and kids want to stay in Pennsylvania. There is some great off roading here. But, if I’m ever back in Washington, it will only be for a visit.

I have a buddy who lives just outside LA right now and loves the area! Funny enough, he's considering a move to NYC, but he definitely doesn't utilize the access to the outdoors as much as he could... he needs a Jeep. ;)

I was just outside Philly for a long weekend back in October and loved how much green space there is for a fairly large city. Big change from Manhattan, in a good way (in my opinion).

Haven't spent any time in Washington except within the Seattle airport, but flying over it, it looks beautiful! I would love to spend some time there at some point. I'm actually flying into Spokane at the end of February for a ski trip in Idaho... couldn't tell you where, that's my girlfriend's department. She picks the destination, and I handle the travel arrangements, but this time we're with a group so someone else booked the airbnb and rental car and I haven't cared to retain the details. ?

I don't blame you! A garage of some sort is on my short list, and I've even been looking into eventually building a barndominium so I can have more room for cars, tools, and toys!

That likely won't happen until we're fairly settled and not planning on moving again after 1-3 years, though.

Where has been your favorite spot?
hands down to live, japan

@50+ I recently moved from Arizona to Utah after moving from Phx to Flagstaff. While living in AZ, I spent all time Jeeping, Skiing & Mountain Biking in the mountains of Colorado & Utah. In my old age I cant handle hot weather anymore. So I choose Northern Utah so I can be close to Colorado, Idaho & Southern Utah for the winters. I'm glad to be surrounded by so many local mountains (Wasatch & Uinta Mtn Ranges) and close to the states I would like to visit the most, plus the Western US has all the publics lands and national parks which makes it easier to go out and enjoy all my hobbies. :)

Utah is another state on my short list! Been wanting to check it out for quite some time and have a few friends in the Salt Lake City area.

From everything I've read, Salt Lake City has been experiencing huge growth over the past few years and has quickly become one of the most desirable cities to move to for younger generations. Lots of startups and large tech companies are opening up shop there as well.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but it's not actually as hard as you might think.

I could even move to Knoxville, TN and be near an airport and only about an hour from skiing. It's not an international airport and I can't imagine Tennessee skiing being the best, but I do like the area!

I'm mostly asking to hear everyone's opinions and see if there's somewhere I didn't think of or haven't found yet. All of my wants for the perfect location are definitely just that, wants. I don't have to have all or really any of them, but it sure would be nice if I did!
Been in Montana qll my life. Traveled lots, almost every state. Always glad when the plane touched down here. They call it Big Sky country for a reason. Could not be in a better place if you're a jeep owner and love the outdoors.

This is a very interesting pick! ?‍♂ please elaborate!
i lived in japan from 2000-2005 with the deployment every once in a while on the uss kitty hawk, the thing I loved at the time was the ease of travel, you could jump on a train and be in the middle of no where so quick. the vast majority of the populous is polite, i like their immigration laws, and i don't wanna jump into politics but other reasons. but for now goal is out in the middle of no where with basic power/septic hookups would be ideal

I’ve lived all over. WI, OH, CA, AL, CO, MN, VT, MN and WI a couple more times. While I loved a lot of them, San Diego, CA probably one of the most, I just wish I could live back in my former favorite city…Minneapolis, MN. After living there during Covid, Rioting, almost getting car jacked and shot towards, and so many other things, I’ve cut my losses a few years ago and moved to a suburb of MPLS. Now, if I could move back to anywhere, it would have to be La Crosse, WI. I’ll always love the Coulee and Driftless region of the US.
