I’ve got the Uniden installed. They only put out 3 Watts from the factory but can be dialed up to 3.5-4.0. It works, but I don’t have anything to compare it to. At one point my antenna lost the ground connection in the fire ring coax. It is mounted in the existing hole in the Mopar spare tire add on bracket. There is a thread showing this. I think the reception was better for reasons I’ll never take the time to understand. I did make sure the tailgate was well grounded though.
Yeah, I don't need any serious output. There are a lot of guys who are big on VHF units with 20 mile range, but I just need to be able to communicate with folks in a small group. However, if a simple tweak can up the output to 4W, which I think is what the Cobra 75 does, that'd be nice.

Wondering if anyone uses the MURS radios?
MURS use doesn't seem to be widespread, at all. Unlike GMRS it doesn't require a license, but the power limit is much lower. 2 watts vs up to 50 on GMRS depending on the frequency.

I think it'd be a nice option if more people used it. Chicken and egg problem.

There are just too many options today (FRS, GMRS, MURS, Ham, CB) and far too many people violating the FCC rules (in part because they're more than a little confusing). It's quite the mess.

I haven't installed it and used it yet. I'm still waiting on a viable antenna mount for the JL. I can't wait to give it a go, though. It is super compact and the backlighting color can be changed to go with the JL's dash theme. I'll certainly let everyone know once I get it all set up. I just don't know the timeline right now.
Saw this on another thread and thought it was a cool idea. You don't have to run a cable to the back of the Jeep and it keeps the antenna pretty high up. This is probably what I'll use once I buy my JL.

I like it! Have we found a way through the firewall for the wires, yet?
I'm sure there's a way. I probably won't have my JLUR until Spring of 2019. Waiting to test drive a diesel before I buy.

It looks great,.....Thanks for sharing....!!

Quick question about the bolts you used for the antenna bracket...What size did you use?

Thanks

I know that a lot of you tend to use CBs for communication on the trails. I don't understand why there isn't more of a movement or a bigger push to a better quality and more modern format such as HAM/Amateur Radio...probably because of the test required to obtain a license...or at least GMRS which has a much longer range and can also be FM communications which will be much clearer and easier to understand. For me...I'll just stick to my HAM radio and use one that's had its frequencies opened up (commonly referred to as a MARS mod) so I can communicate on a broader spectrum of VHF/UHF (2m/70cm).

Looks nice! What exactly are you hanging the mic from? Where can I get one?

Never, even in rough terrain.

It moves some and doesn't hit anything but can get annoying so grab the cord to slow it down.

Most of the time you don't know it is there and the speaker is close enough not to need an external one.

Good point on not needing external speaker with this method! Guess only drawback would be if you were wheeling with the top off. I wonder if you could hang it from the rearview mirror in that case?
