When is a wobble death wobble?

My 2018 2dr Rubi is about to flip 51,000 miles. No lift or any suspension mods. Tires are original. Never experienced this in 5 years, but twice tonight…

Traveling about 60-65mph and hit a very small bump and everything started shaking. I let go of the throttle and it smoothed out after about 75 feet. Then, on my way home, the same thing happened.

Since is smoothed out with no drama does that mean it’s just a regular wobble? Strange I’ve never encountered in all this time, but reading through this it seems “normal” as parts wear out: https://www.google.com/url?client=i...the-jl-an-algorithm-to-diagnosing-your-issue/

I do know my tire pressure is a bit low. I usually keep it at 34psi, but now it’s at 32 (cold temps and I have been too lazy to fire up the compressor). I guess I’ll start there.

Anyway, just wondering if DW means it only stops when you have to dramatically reduce speed (like under 5mph)?

My understanding is that it's more about the violence of the wobble that defines it as "death" or no. For most instances I've read about and seen in videos slowing down is the only thing that makes it stop.

At 51,000 miles with no mods, I would look at tire balance and possible tread wear. Also, checking torque in all of your suspension components. Something may need to be re-torqued to spec.

IMO death wobble is violent shaking of the steering wheel and most of the rest of the vehicle as well; and doesn't stop until you substantially reduce speed or stop. I don't think you had death wobble, but if you don't fix what ever caused your issue, you will probably experience true death wobble soon. check tire pressure, tire balance, tire runout, ball joints, track bar bushing, tie rods, etc...

Proper 'death wobble' is an oscillation that usually requires a dramatic drop in speed before it goes away...sounds like your's isn't quite dead yet...
But at your milage I'd start with the ball joints, followed by checking the controll arm and track bar bushings as well as making sure every bolt in the suspension is properly torqued.

It takes very little 'slop' - and I'm talking mm's to set up a wobble under the right conditions. Mine would have a wobble over one specific bump...if I was going over 74mph, had a full tank of gas and the top off. Otherwise I could hit it all day without even a small wobble - weird as hell. Stopped under any condition after I installed a heavy duty track bar...

This. My Rubicon started to develop a wobble between 50-60mph. Slowing under 50 would generally reign it in. I already had the steering box TSB done as well as the longer Mopar Lower Control Arms so I started researching what suspension components to replace first. After noticing several people mentioning the tires, I decided to replace them. I decided to start with the tires first as my KO2s sucked and could be downright scary in the rain, even though there was a ton of tread left. I went with the Falken WIldpeak A/T3W in P285/70R17 and the problem appears to have been solved.
