I use this Harbor Freight bag but am considering going to a "tool burrito" as Matt's Offroad Recovery calls the tool roll.

The Jeep's loadout is split between the cargo tray in the back, and the largest Craftsman tool bag that fit, when full, behind the driver's seat. The latter is actually a Winter prep bag, but I'm also taking a very broad view of the word "tools".

I also have this tool roll, still new in the wrap, on standby. It's a robust ChiCom clone of the much more costly Atlas Yorktown tool roll. The Amazon item was a Christmas gift, which is why I've held on to it.

Sticking with rolls for the moment, I've carry this well-sorted tool roll in the Suzuki's top box. When performing maintenance on the bike at home, I'll use just the tools in the roll, to the extent possible. I'll add to or change the roll's contents as needed to ensure that I can reproduce my efforts on the road. That's the sort of thinking that will get you home at night. ;)

Finally, I've a Husky tool bag in the Ural's trunk, also stuffed to the gills with hand tools and important spares. The Husky brand might be the sturdiest of all the tool bags that I've seen.

I am pretty happy with this setup. It holds a surprising amount of tools and is compact. Covers just about everything you would need minus power tools. Looks like they have an updated design with a large pocket vs the Velcro flaps on the backside of mine. Also it’s not cheap and flimsy like all the tool rolls off Amazon. It’s sturdy and very well made right here in the USA.

That large Yorktown tool roll on the link looks really good. I think you could put more tools in it than you could lift into the Jeep. I'm definitely going to look into this one.

I think this medium sized Yorktown tool roll would be just what I need. You can still put tools in it that are up to 16" long, so the big open-end wrenches, breaker bars, and hammers would fit. Thanks, Bhodill

I am definitely a fan of a well designed roll over a bag. Its so much easier to have everything fairly well organized and easy to get to.

I'd recommend this Tool Roll

Have had it for over 5 years, fits under the back seat and holds lots of tools. I use it everytime I wrench on the jeep to make sure I have the relevant tools I may need on the trail.

Carries everything I need and more. Even has room for a cordless impact driver and sockets if you feel the need.

Go big or go home

I have carried a small tool bag in every vehicle i have had since I was 18. I have never been a fan of the roll bags. I always feel like I can't fit something i want in there. I like big mouth small bags. Brand doesn't matter as long as the zipper is quality. It's a tool bag. It's going to get dirty and beat up. The zippers always fail before the bag does. I currently have a craftsman in the Compass, a Kobalt in the JLU, and a snap on i have had for 30 years in ZR2. Don't use the outside pockets without zippers. I work on boats. Universal truth, anything in those pockets eventually ends up in the water. Pro tip, color coordinate your to handles to find them quickly in the bag. Electrical tools are orange klien handles. Pliers are blue kobalt or channel lok. Cutters are red craftsman snapon etc.... you can do the same with different colored electrical tape if you already built your bag out. I also use smaller pouches or Tupperware to separate metric wrenches and sockets.

I have a small tool kit about the size of an ipad but about 2-3 inches thick. Used to pack it all the time for road trips but honestly have never used it other than piece of mind to have it with me
