Wrangler Rubicon
Just purchased a brand new (2025) Unlimited Rubicon. Dealer is in Salt Lake City. We're in Grand Junction, Colorado. Transport company is delivering in about a week. Then, it's off to Moab, about an hour away. My biggest concern is so many electronic gadgets to go bad. Way too many icons on the dash. Oh well, I'll just ignore them all and drive. Yippee. Happy New Year!

I don't know why people think that electronics systems are less reliable than mechanical systems. True, some companies like Fiat and Jeep have issues with implementing SW and over complicate things like Engine Stop Start. But by and large the things that fail or cause problems on Jeeps are the same old mechanical clutch, the 3.6 valvetrain and oil filter adapter, the leaky tops, the rotting paint, the mechanical CAN bus block, the death wobble.

Mechanical systems fail. Poorly implemented electronic systems can cause funky issues. Well implemented electronic systems should be at least an order of magnitude more reliable than mechanical systems.

Sorry. Just razzing a newbie in good fun. 😁 There are a bunch of things you don't know yet but you'll learn in your time on the forum.

First thing is that a lot of enthusiasts don't call a Jeep a "car". A car is a car and a Jeep is a Jeep. Cars aren't Jeeps and Jeeps aren't cars.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter what you call it. But when you call a Jeep a car, god kills a kitten. 🤪

Sometimes I call my Jeep a car just to make the purists twitch...

Brother, Grand Junction is 4 hours away from SLC. Rent a car and come pick it up! It’s a nice drive as well. Then you can hit Moab on the way back.

I think it's cause most people can figure out the cause of mechanical issues fairly easily. Where as electrical gremlins can a total nightmare and mystery to figure out, track down, and fix.

Is that really true though? Modern diagnostics are so good. When I run a scan on my BMW with my $120 Launch scanner it tells me so much - they have computers monitoring computers that monitor other computers - the one error I had was a very specific "Rear Keyless Entry Sensor Open". Went under the trunk mat, pushed the connector more forcefully to latch, and that is that - no more issues.

Even on my 2021 JL, while I had the free hotspot thing, it would go out all the time. Scanned with the same Scanner and would say a module needed a reset - pulled the numbered fuse, plugged it back in and voila - it would work for another 2 months, then repeat.

A mechanical 3.6 ticking or exploding/overheating MT is not easy for an owner to address.

Yeah i think it's true. Especially when no codes are stored. One example my climate control is possessed. When in park the compressor kicks on. The temp settings are all over the place and either go max hot or max cold until the temp is adjusted all the way up or down then it kind of lets you find middle ground. Dealers say can't find any codes, sorry. Quiet a few reports of software glitches, Christmas tree dash lights, start stop issues, svc 4wd issues, charging issues, canbus issues, uconnect problems, etc etc. The forum is full of them. Yes full of mechanical stuff too but my point is most mech problems are fairly easily diagnosed. The software stuff not so much. The ticking in my 3.6 was super easy to diagnose as the rocker arm/ cam failure. No not a job i would do but was easy for the dealer tech to repair (under warranty thank goodness). Dw? Lots of potentials causes but pretty easy to troubleshoot. But when dealers and shops throw up their arms and some of these owners have their jeeps sitting in shops bricked while the star cases work their way through without success figuring out the electrical gremlins, yeah, id say in my opinion the electronic whoas are way more of an issue in the jl than the mechanical stuff.
