TV star buys new Wrangler for daughter as birthday gift.

Predictably, the Comments section does what it does best:

"Really great choice of first car for the planet.. go burn loads of fuel on roads with your off road 4x4!"

"My son had to work hard and save up to buy his first car, like myself and my wife."

"This is ridiculous for a 16 yr old."

People don't understand how much Wranglers are or how much we put into them. You can buy a new Rubicon and have close to $90k in it when you're done with lifts, tires, and whatever else you put on. They just see a Wrangler and think cheap. Little do they know we have as much in our Jeeps as some people have in there BMW.

When I was shopping for my Jeep and they told me it was $32k I almost fell over. It had been about 9 years since I had bought a new car and I guess didn't realize that around 30k was now considered a "cheaper" vehicle. My previous car was 15k out the door in 2011.

I guess it's all relative really. To me a brand new Rubicon is a really expensive car. To Sarah Michelle Gellar it's probably a pretty cheap car.
ditto, people with money should be able to spend how they see fit..I am sure spending $70,000 to them is like me spending $70 in the grand scheme of things..

I have a pretty low budget build ie AEV lift 35's etc...I was filling up and a guy about my age...ie in his 60's was in a newer GM SUV he asked what something like my jeep went for these days....when I said I had around 60 into it he said "oh I thought it would be more" I said you can probably spend whatever you want tho and he said "no doubt about that"

On a side note I don't like how everyone these days has to go to Instagram to tell their kids how much they love them.

Learning whether or or not your parents love you should be between you and your therapist.

After selling my lemon-fresh YJ back to Jeep in 1995, I stayed away from the brand for 25 years. I also tend to keep my vehicles for a long time.

I say those things to add context to the degree of sticker shock that I felt when walking on to a CDJR dealer lot on a sunny day in late August 2020. When I saw what Wranglers now cost, I questioned the sanity of the owners...and eventually my own sanity for ordering one two weeks later. 🙃

Ah the double edged sword of being an adult. On one side you get to do whatever you want... but then on the other side you make the mistake of doing whatever you want.

A Jeep as a gift is lavish? I see a thousand 16 year old's running around Scottsdale with brand new Rovers mommy and daddy bought for them. Sarah Michelle Gellar is such a cheap-ass.

This is hilarious. Since when is the FOX News crowd on the woke end of the spectrum? Here in Long Island, 89% of Wranglers are driven by kids between 16-25 years old. Getting your kid a wrangler doesn’t even remotely qualify for the criticism given in the article. I see kids being gifted 911s and worse for their birthdays. A Rubicon is a drop in the bucket at best.

and yeah, agree that people should be allowed to spend their money however they want. I’d rather take a hard look at how the money was made and whether that is something as a society we want to stand for.
