its a sh!t article, one data reference, etc. Typical lazy journalism... might just call it a hit piece on the Jeep brand. I haven't paid anywhere near MSRP on any of the (4) Jeeps I've bought new, including my 392. Web-crap.

Ugh, this iSeeCars data comes up every now and again and it's such B.S. every time.

Their "methodology" is by scraping/analyzing new vehicle listings on dealers' websites. This is the *posted* price. It has nothing to do with actual sales data.

NEVER happen, people are scared when the walk in the door of a dealer.

I have never paid MSRP in my life or since 1964. The most I have ever paid was $1000 over invoice.

I have a simple plan:

I am here to buy/order a new car/truck etc.

GREAT, come into my office.

Don't need to, here is the deal: Invoice minus any incentives that I qualify for on a clean deal. Yes or No?

I wish all dealers had below invoice like Jeep does. Trying to buy a GMC and no one will budge much below MSRP, even Koons.

Been buying cars for over 50 years and there is ALWAYS some dealer that will sell at or near Invoice. Do you need to travel and find one most likely so. Just keep knocking on the doors of dealers until someone says yes. I have shopped for months, driven hundreds of miles, but always win.

Every Toyota in Alaska has ADM of up to 20% above MSRP. All of them. Most can still get a Wrangler at MSRP off the lot.

The one Toyota dealer will not even show prices online anymore so they can get suckers to go to the dealership.

Does that approach still work (without dedicating your life to finding that deal) since COVID?

Added excessive price also happens with the dealer modded units. They put a cheap lift and cheap wheels with 35s and try to charge $10k for about a $3k cost to them. Throw in bumpers and stripes and the cost can go up to $20k over MSRP.

Most who see and buy that off the lot get emotional about it and have to have it. A lot of Jeep dealers have a brand new modified one or two on the lot.

Just ordered my 2023 Jeep Rubicon back in Aug.

You got to be straight with them and willing to walk away, DO NOT go into their office.

2001 Corvette brought back the Z06 from the 60's. Everyone wanted one. I went to dealer after the dealer. Initially they were ordered only, MSRP + $10,000. One dealer Quoted me MSRP + $10,000 and $2000 in $20s and $100s, cash, used bills, envelope with his name on it. He was the Sales Mgr and the only one you order thru. (They have come out with the Z06 for the C8 corvette. Dealers are getting MSRP + $40,000 UP.)

I got my 2001 Z06 from a dealer that did not even have an allocation. But the GM said he would call the REP and see if he could get one. I was waiting about 10 min he came back and said I got you a Z06 let's sit down and order it. I paid $1000 over the Invoice, the most expensive car I have ever bought.

This is on a legit order.

Off the floor, not it gets tough and it's a battle, especially if it's a hot car and well optioned, price can go all over the place.

This is a good indicator of a dealership in general. The local one that does this wanted $10K over for a 392, the one that doesn’t never mentioned an ADM (MSRP but no rip off)

My dealer straight up told me they were marking up prices on their "harder to get" vehicles to steer away out of area buyers. Not sure about that logic, since it may take local buyers away with them ?

They told me not to worry about my order being marked up. I guess I'll have to see how willing they are to go to invoice or below for this purchase since I bought my GC from them in 2019 under invoice. But that's pre-pandemic, so who knows...

I haven't locked in anything on my order for pricing, trade, etc. But since I'm only $5 in the hole right now, I have no problem walking away from it if they try to pull some MSRP/over MSRP nonsense once I get to the "real" deposit when/if my order ever gets past D1 ?

I always go in with the mentality that a vehicle purchase should be a WANT, not a NEED. Takes care of all the psychology, stupid sales bs tactics before I even drive to the dealership and helps me walk right out if it starts ?

Supply and demand.

If people are willing to pay those prices, then they will sell for those prices.

Don't like the price? Don't buy it. I drove over an hour with my girlfriend to go buy a 2022 BRZ early this year. Found the salesperson and sat at the desk. She said "Oh, this car has a $7000 markup". I stood up and walked out. Not paying $37,000 for a $30,000 car. Ordered the Jeep a couple months later for 2% below invoice.

I knew that article was crap the second I saw that Lightnings weren't even in the top 15. And then they said the Macan @ $14,221 was only beaten out by the 'Vette @ 14,697, yet right above the 'Vette is the Cayenne @ $16,750; so they didn't even get their own stats correct.
