Hi all,

I've had my vehicle for a few years now (22" JLUR 3.6 Auto) and I've noticed in recent months, there is a noise possibly from the transmission. Sounds like a buzzing or zip noise. This sound is very hard to capture and It gets loud enough that I can hear it with my windows up. I did manage to capture it on video here, but it's very faint. Noise happens when the vehicle is in 1st and 2nd gear. Vehicle is shifting fine and no leaks from the transmission. I took it to the dealer and they gave me the usual can't replicate the noise. I was wondering if anyone has similar experience here. TIA

I would suggest waiting for it to become more obvious before worrying about it.
Thank you. Yes, I agree, I think dealers would only replace parts if they actually see it fail in front of them lol. I'm just a bit concerned about when the transmission might fail ( if it's the transmission). I have a big trip planned going to Moab this year. Don't want to get stranded :whew:

You'll get a CEL long before it fails. Don't worry about it too much.

I’ve been hearing that noise on my 22 diesel for over a year when on slow down or come to a stop it’s very faint. But I hear it. Not always though …. Nothing that’s worrying me at this time

Ah i see, yeah its weird. It sounds like a bearing noise. Not sure what it is. And yes, so far it's not causing any issues...

Automatic transmissions make noise. They always have, from the first types to the most recent types. But they are much quieter than in the past. The gears and clutches in these 8 speeds are pretty quiet, but not silent.

Hopefully it'll last years and years. I want (and wish) my Jeep to be problem free for at least 200k miles! 😄

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s a BMW 8 series transmission and transmission make noise. Ou have hydraulics, pumps. Clutches , actuators. They will make some kind of noise. Some cars/trucks are much louder

I’ve noticed when I come to a stop and put it in Park I hear a faint. Bzzzziiiiouuuu lol . Very faint. I think I’ve been hearing it from a few weeks after I brought it home from the dealer
And I’m clocking 19k miles. It’s all good

Take good care of it. Don’t abuse it. Do your preventive maintenance and timely services and it will

BMW has nothing to do with it.

BMW has nothing to do with it.
Do your research before you reply
The 8HP70 is produced by ZF Friedrichshafen
Simply known as ZF - found in many BMW’s ( 7 series /Alpina B7’s -Audi’s and Charger/challengers and Ram’s. Depending on the application. They are good to hold over 600 lbs + of torque
