Finally clarified an odd anomaly that I noticed a few weeks back. When I have my phone (IPhone 15 Pro) plugged into the front USB-c port using an “Apple” usb-c cable everything works like a champ. Music and all apps.

Now if I’m out on the beach running the trails and using my Baofeng dedicated GMRS radio while the vehicle radio and carplay are rocking out things get complicated. Meaning… When I’m playing music on the Apple Music store and I goto use the GMRS radio it cuts off the phone completely as if it’s been unplugged from the usb-c port.
I can receive radio calls all day long and no issue, but as soon as I key up to respond to someone talking to me it once again kills the phone connection to the 8.2 head unit.

I’ve been able to positively replicate this issue over 13 times and it will only happen on GMRS ch15.

Anyone else ever ran into this issue?
Radio firmware is up to date and so is the phone and same on the Baofeng.

crazy stuff…

Very interesting. Any other music apps effected other than Apple music? Navigation apps? You mention it is like the phone is disconnected. Does car play totally disconnect from the Jeep? If so, does it auto connect back? You say only channel 15. What about with a privacy code?

This is very interesting, especially because you can reproduce the issue with ease. I would also guess that if this was a wide spread issue, others would have run into it. But this is the first I am hearing of it.

Haven’t tried it with other music apps, and CarPlay will not automatically reconnect, even after being unplugged and reconnected. I have to fully shut down the phone and exit the vehicle and turn it off and then get back in and restart everything. It’s super odd. Tomorrow when the wife gets back home I’ll shot a video of it, so everyone can see what is happening. I’ll also try it with another music app.

its a hand held GMRS radio.

I would try another not Baofeng GMRS radio and test it and see what happens. I'm pretty confident the problem isn't anything Apple related.

Sounds like radio interference, that frequency has some kind of effect on the jeeps usb stuff. Someone should try with a different brand of radio to see if they experience it too. I can try it when i get home from work later today.

Yeah I’m pretty confident that it’s not an Apple issue, unless it’s the phone hardware. But for sure not an Apple software problem.

My radio does not knock out my CarPlay.

Sorry it took long, my battery was dead the other day when I told you I’d try it out. $200 later we’re back in business…

So I’ve further narrowed it down to the usb-c port. Odd stuff.
