Another great "benefit" of a FAD front axle. The axle breaks at the FAD during the crash test sending 1/2 of the axle (w/ the wheel) under the Jeep causing it to flip. Rather than getting rid of the FAD or adding extra support to prevent the axle from breaking at the FAD, they add this to try and prevent the tire from going under the Jeep.
Hey, I don't want to come across as saying you are wrong, because I do not disbelieve you nor do I have any experience or specific information to question you...

BUT, when I watch and re-watch the crash test videos, it looks like the wheel assembly of the impacted side is coming off at the knuckles. Also based on seeing more than a couple videos/posts where this area appears to be a weak spot on our vehicles, I think this is a case of the knuckles just aren't strong enough to sustain an impact like the ones demonstrated in the testing. More so than the FAD causing a weak spot that shears the axle in two.

Anyone have idea what this is? On the passenger side of the frame, behind the passenger front tire.
The bracket doesn’t have anything attached to it.

Very stock 22JLUR, 3.6 auto.
Thanks!!

Your contribution to this topic is greatly appreciated.
If you took 3 seconds to hit the search tab, there are at minimum 4 posts that discuss the purpose of this bracket. Seriously man.

I highly commend those who answer the same questions over and over. They have the patience I wish I had.

Edit - just did the search to prove my point. See below. This isn't Trolling. Its calling out laziness.

You do realize the thread you're replying to was originally created in October, about the time the bracket first started showing up, right? And has just recently been bumped to the top by a recent reply to the topic?

That's possible. When the FAD breaks, what's left of the axle housing puts force in a lot of locations and angles on parts and joints that were not designed to take that kind of force. Then again, make it is the new aluminum knuckle design.

Who would of guessed ? Aluminum knuckles not strong enough and shearing off?
So Jeep increased mpg by saving weight with aluminum knuckles by .001 mpg. And then had to add the weight back on with a bracket to deflect the tire when the weak aluminum knuckle shears off.

And if yours is rattling, you might want to torque down the bolt attached to it...
