It’s a vehicle designed to have the top off, doors off, is rated for a water depth, and has drain plugs inside.

get out of here with it being unreasonable to expect some water resistance on the interior electronics.

I’m pretty damn sure there were some measures put in place for water intrusion on the dash electronics.

It makes zero sense that jeep designed it for a literal hose in the interior but took no measures to protect the electronics from water.

“hey jeep owners, you can spray your interior down with 60psi of water, but just make sure you only get the carpet and don’t let a drop of it splash on the dash, because the physics of spraying water works like that”
By all means, take a 60psi hose to your whole dash. Please record it.

I will say there have been numerous accounts of people barely getting caught in the rain and bricking those head unit though. YMMV.

Yes, when Jeep designed the JL, one of the tests was a 24-hour water intrusion test, where they misted the dash with water for a day. With that said, I would never test that with rain in mine, and that is why I got a SOT currently, as I live in SW Florida.

I had an ‘18 JLUR and I typically spent most of the summer with the top on and the doors off. It did get water/rain in it from time to time, but since the top was always on (sun is intense and I need the shade but be I like the doors off) it never really got direct water on the u connection or the dash.

i never had any issues related to water. My Jeep was never abused, but I parked it outside, it got wet, it was in the snow, I had wet dogs and kids in it and it always seemed To run fine.

i had it for 4 years and I sold it to order a 392….I hope it is as reliable and fun as my last one was

actually do they even have an IP rating? I’ve looked at the factory units on a few websites and I couldn’t find any. The alpine restyle is IP53 which kinda sucks, the stinger heigh10 is better at IP66 I think. Insane audio is IP68 though I believe.

Rule of thumb: Water, electronics, bad

I never trust things that are water "resistant" to be anything more than capable of handling a bit of spit, especially electronics. Even manufacturers that claim their devices are such have crazy fine print exclusions in their "warranty". ?

Agreed, it isn't unrealistic to assume some damp conditions were assumed in the design. That said, pouring water on it probably doesn't qualify. I have had two occasions where it rained while I had the roof or doors off. Generally, knock on wood, I've had no issues aside from wet carpets and needing to wipe down the interior.

No there haven't. But props for saying that so authoritatively. LOL
Actually there have. At least two local here to me (one had intermittent issues and one was bricked and replaced under warranty) and if you google "wet Uconnect JLwranglerforum" you'll find a bunch more.
Props for calling me a liar though.

Haha not seeing the bricks, but whatevs. You seem very excited about this issue. Too bad about that one local one who ended up with a bricked unit. Since it's local and not online, we'll just assume that the cause was 100% determined to be water and not anything else.

Not at all. As a matter of fact, you want to hit your dash with a hose, fill your boots dude. As an electronics tech, I personally don't want to do that to mine but it's your rig. Literally, "fill your boots". Lol. I frankly couldn't care less.
As for the local bricking one. She was driving , roof down and got caught in a rain storm. As she was pulling over her 8.4 went dead. I don't automatically think people are lying (for no reason)so I take her on her word as to what happened. The other one, buddy in his JT went through a massive puddle, no doors, no roof and lost his 8.4 for a while. It did end up coming back on though.

Anyway, have a great day and lets see those pics of you cleaning your dash with a hose. Looking forward to being proven wrong for sure. Until then we can 100% assume the cause is NOT from being hosed down, right?

Umm did you let John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson borrow your jeep or something?

Otherwise not sure of the point?
I had squirrels going in my jeep. 6x off roading trips with doors off, and 2 kids. Cleaning would have taken several hours.

I like to keep my interiors clean. I also like to go off roading with my doors off. The two do not compliment each other.

I took my carpets out and all my drain plugs. Now I’m just gonna hose out my interior each time I go off roading. Such a time saver. Doors staying off all summer too.
