When I back up the vehicle shudders, is that normal? It's especially noticeable when turning the wheel which I assume to be related to the power steering system. Not sure if that's a common issue or not.

I've never experienced that with my 2019 JLUR....perhaps something with your E brake sticking?

Do you have a manual or automatic? If manual you could have a pressure plate issue. If automatic that's not normal and you may need a new trans.

I tested it, seems to be while turning and backing up so my guess is a power steering issue while in reverse. Also, it's an automatic.

No. It's neither normal nor common.

A bit of due diligence might get you closer to confirming the source, if not the resolution.

-Are the fluid levels correct in the power steering reservoir, and the transmission? The former is confirmed via an easy peek under the hood. The latter is checked within a narrow temperature range. See this thread for additional intel (start at #16.)
-Can you isolate where on the vehicle the shuddering is most evident? E.g., in the area of the front axle, or along the frame rails in proximity to the transmission body?
-A silly question, but we're just getting this one out of the way: Is the vehicle in 4WD when reversing?

Hope you can get things reconciled.

Does it happen in 4W HI or 2W mode?

Does driving at different speeds make a difference? Maybe try backing up at 5 mph, then 25 mph, then 50 mph, then 70 mph. Report back.

Disclaimer: I am not a transmissionalist.

I'm most interested in the results of backing up and turning at 70 MPH. This will certainly reveal a problem.

/S This is satire. Don't do it.

I'm new to jeeps so I'm still learning the quirks. Got my Rubi takeoff ready now just waiting for wheels and tires.
