Is anyone using Valvoline's Retore and Protect motor oil as the everyday oil in their engines? I am VERY impressed with the data, evidence and reviews of this product on breaking down and eliminating engine deposits. I have a 2025 JLURX with the 2.0T on order and am seriously considering using Restore and Protect as the standard oil in my Jeep. One of my concerns with the GDI (gas direct injection) 2.0T is the buildup of carbon deposits on the valves and intake runners. This seems to be an issue on all GDI engines since there is no fuel in the runners and on top of the valves to wash the deposits clean. I am thinking that Restore and Protect might prevent these carbon deposits as well. My logic is that these deposits most likely are sourced from the small amounts of engine oil that are bypassed back into the intake tract via the PCV system and valve guides. If this oil works so well to clean internal engine deposits, I would assume that protection would also apply to the intake tract. I'm thinking that adding a good quality oil catch can and running Restore and Protect combined with regular oil/filter changes would be the best maintenance to protect this engine for many thousand miles. Any thoughts?

Can't give a specific answer, but the science and proven research they've done on that oil is REALLY impressive. It's the first oil that I know of that actually totally cleans the engine back to day 1. Now that being said, I don't know about use on a brand new vehicle. In theory it would prevent build up, and an interesting theory. Contact Lake Speed, of Speed diagnostics, that guy knows more about oil than any person I know. He is all about the oil.

He did put a video on it.

Yes, I did see this video and he infers that he likes this oil so much he's going to run it in his daughter's new Toyota. I trust what Lake Speed says as he's an expert who owns an oil analysis company speediagnostix.com

He also did another video with Valvoline's lab on their testing of Restore and Protect

He ended up running it in it wife minivan. What is bothering me in that video is how in the world did he let is wife minivan get so dirty / varnish in the first place.

You are inferring that his wife's Toyota was not properly maintained, and I don't think that is the case. He states the engine has 180,000 miles on it and it was only run with Toyota brand 0W-20 synthetic oil. In the oil analysis part of the video he states that a sample of the Toyota oil has 10,000 miles it. Some might think that is abuse but this guy owns an oil analysis company so I would imagine he bases his oil change intervals on the oil analysis and not time or mileage.

My point it that an engine run on the best quality synthetic oil can and will build up carbon deposits over time as his video suggests. That's what makes this product so interesting to me. If you used this oil in a new engine, would it prevent any deposit from forming as well as protect the engine for its lifetime.

He also state there is varnish on the dipstick itself. That you can clearly see in the video and the picture of the video. How in the world are you able to get varnish on a dipsticks ?
If the dipstick is a indication of how the engine was maintained one have to wonder how it got there.

Please follow up with your findings. Are you going to change the filter at any point during the interval using the Restore and Protect? It would be good information to cut open the filter for inspection to see if there is any solid matter or sludge in the filter media. Lake Speed seems to infer that the product completely dissolved the carbon in his wife's Toyota since the filter was clean, but I've seen other users that have found solids and sludge in their filters. I guess it might depend on how dirty the engine actually is.

When I bought the V R&P, I bought a filter cutter. I think there's about 300-400 miles on the oil now. I was going to change the filter at 500 miles, just in case.

I may have to try this oil. At least on the 3.6 you can check the filter or just change the filter pretty easily.

I sent an email to Lake Speed at Speedianostix and we'll see if he responds. I specifically asked him for his opinion on this product as an everyday use motor oil in a new engine. One of my biggest concerns is that I don't think the Restore and Protect has the FCA Material Standard MS-13340 certification that the 2.0T specifies. I don't know how important meeting that particular specification is. The product is Chrysler MS-6395 certified as well as API SN with SN PLUS certified.
