Our $62K Grand Cherokee 4XE lost 50% of its value in 2 years...
2 different dealerships told us they can't move USED hybrids worth a crap...
I'm in the midwest, but maybe they sell better in urban areas...

There is a dealership in NJ, Bridgeton Auto Mall...they are giving $30,000 off the 23 4Xe....giving that much off destroys the value of my 22...

The gas Grand Cherokee never had decent short term resale value.

People flipping vehicles every 3 years or less are in a different category, and that is gambling to begin with, it seems the used car market figured out how to prevent people from making money flipping vehicles, while the used car dealers were losing money.

Bottom line is, know what you are buying, and are you getting value for your money, this applies to everything, not just vehicles.

Personally I thought it was utter insanity when I traded in my 3 year old 2018 with 50,000km and it worked out to only $3,000 less than what I paid for it, that is the main reason I took the deal and got the 2021 4xe.

In my market the 4xe is holding it's value just the same as the gas Wranglers, probably because there is no government grease here, then the 2024 4xe cost more than 20% than the 2021/22

2021/2022 the Sahara 4xe was the same price as the gas, not sure about the later years.

Gas is also expensive here.

So-cal dealer here. We struggle to move used and new ones these days.

Considering the 2025s are hitting lots I'd expect they'd offer a cruise voucher for how desperate they are to move 2023s

It is the same in the SWEST. The word is out on their danger, reliability, and lack of parts availability. So, why would anybody want to buy one? The Dealers are already stuck with large volumes of the new ones, so why would they want to take used ones in on trade? But everybody to their own.........

Let's see...

Notoriously unreliable vehicle - Check
New units being sold for 20k under MSRP - Check
Has had multiple recalls for fires (Including an active one) - Check
PHEV/BEV - Check

These things are being traded in left and right. Their used value has tanked hard in the last year or two because of the above. The main thing is the massive cuts under MSRP that's hurting you, as the average 4XE buyer has zero idea about their reliability issues. PHEV/BEVs in general also tank in value, it's just a thing. MSRP of these things should be mid 40s fully loaded. They're so overpriced at MSRP it's crazy.

I never understood this one. They're a FWD truck, it's so silly. It's just they're so damn cheap and the small truck segment is completely barren. They sell like hotcakes. If anything I hope it makes dodge bring back the Dakota. We need to bring back small/mid sized trucks again. The F150/Silverado/Ram 1500 is outrageously large.
im in mexico right now and these things are everywhere. basically the same thing as a maverick. available in standard and crew cab
https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...bed Ram 700,which it shares its underpinnings.

Yeah, we don't flip vehicles.
My wife was retiring and we wanted to get one last new car before she did so we ordered one.
The 4XE GC we bought in 2022 was going to be a long term purchase.
Unfortunately 6 recalls and 3 major service calls and finally getting told we could no longer park it inside, plug it in, or look at it funny ( with no fix in sight) changed our opinion.
Wish we would have just gotten a gas one.

I have a 22 Rubicon 4Xe. This past summer the check engine light was going off/on. I took it to my dealer, the light was off but they said the codes were stored. They kept the Jeep for a week, couldn't reproduce the "code", told me to bring it back when it comes back on. Two weeks later, back on, dealer had the Jeep for 2 weeks and said it was the transmission oil modulator. Picked it up and the next day the check engine light was back on, the transmission was slipping it would not go into electric mode even though there was 47% on the charge and the A/C would not blow cold. Bottom line, it wasn't safe to drive and I drove right to the dealership. About 2 weeks later they tell me it's the hybrid battery. But they are on back order we will let you know. That same day I received, via USPS, the Jeep recall on the battery and not to charge it, park inside, etc. Through this, I contacted Jeep Cares and long story short, they offered to reimburse me for a rental or reimburse my monthly payment once the Jeep was fixed and back to me. In total, they had it a little over a month. I get the call it's done, I got to pick it up and the moment I pulled off the lot the check engine light is back on. I go back, they run the code and its the heating colling element for the hybrid battery...apparently easy fix. I pick it up 2 days later all appears to be fixed. However, even though its a new battery, the recall still exists. I was hoping since the 24's apparently are not being recalled I would be good. From what I now understand, production has ceased for now, dealers cannot deliver these off the lot. But they are allowing those with the recall to drive them? My Jeep Cares case was closed; it was for the battery replacement. But they are re-opening a case for the recall. I am hoping they dop some sort of buy back, trade assistance or something. There are some dealers offering $30,000 discounts on these which ruins the value of mine.

Sounds like your dealership is actually doing their due diligence. Rare nowadays.

Hang in there. I went through a similar nightmare with mine. Best advice I can give is to contact a lemon law firm, and see if you are still within its limits. Wish you the best of luck.

I think we have to keep in mind that all these 4xe's and other "green" stuff, was NOT what the manufacturer wanted to do. It's what they were FORCED to do. And in this condition the consumer satisfaction and long term reliability was the last thing the auto makers were worrying about. All they needed was to meet the government demands while still making some profit.

I honestly don't think they're making a profit off the 4XE platform between the R&D and consistent warranty issues.

You're maybe right. Then they must be cutting corners elsewhere, which affects the overall Jeep quality, and not in a good way

It's not just Jeep PHEVs either.
Shortly before we bought ours our next door neighbor bought a Rav4 PHEV.
Had nothing but problems with it too.
He just traded it off for a new Ford Maverik...
