Maybe I'm premature on this but it appears all of my usb and usb-c ports stay on without ignition ON. I just bought that ottocast wireless carplay and the blue light stays on all the time.
Any option to turn off?

I think in one of the other threads it was mentioned that it stays on for an hour with no way to adjust that.

@Vaunswa

After ignition is set to off, ALL USB ports stay powered up for 60 mins.. At this time there is no way to set-up differently.

IF this is a problem, buy an On/Off data/power USB switch to use with your wireless car play dongle.

This is incredibly annoying when you return home and the CarPlay adapter continues to connect to your phone preventing your phone from shifting to home Wi-Fi for an hour. Would be great to have an option to disable the USB when the car is turned off.

Yes, that continued connection attempt to your Apple smartphone is real "annoying".

An option would be to install and use a Power and Data ... Male to Female USB Cable Adapter with an On/Off Switch inline with your CarPlay adapter. (Cost $12+-)

You would flip the switch on the inline switch to off, when you exit your JL. When getting into the JL, your flip the switch to on.

I live in the country where there is minimal cell coverage. Not switching to voice over Wi-Fi immediately when I return home means dropped/missed calls for an hour. Since my home is also my office, this is untenable.

Great idea. I’m only 2 days into having the CarPlay adapter and was just planning to unplug, not ideal since I mounted it in the center con for port 2. This would save the USB port some wear.

Thanks.

Can’t find it right now but I seem to remember a YouTube video where you can move the fuse for the USB to on or off with the ignition in off position.

@mmcbeat

That fuse move you mention, is in reference to the power port in the rear compartment of the JL. Again, the power port and has no impact on the/any USB ports.

YES, a JL owner could set-up the power port so it is live 24/7 (Fuse move) and then use a USB adapter in the power port that would give power only (no data) to a smartphone attached to that USB adapter plugged into the power port.

@mmcbeat: The power port in the cargo area comes from the factory in a "battery" rather than "accessory" setting: meaning that unless you move the aforementioned fuse that controls it, it is always energized irrespective of the JL's ignition status (off, on, cranked), and does not, for those desiring this setting, like you, need to be "set up."

Geez...plug the dang accessory in the cargo port with the engine off.

9999 times out of 10000, higher than that, provided you have battery power, it will be energized. If it isn't energized, then sure, go check the fuses in the PDC.

Checking the PDC first is like checking each time you drive if there's an engine under the hood for fear its been stolen since your last trip. It's possible but unlikely, and clearly ruled out as a product of the confirmation of a engine cranked without incident, which you should try first seeing as you have to start the vehicle anyway, just like an energized cargo port.

You go with the path of least resistance to rule out a problem first. People who suggest otherwise just can't admit that they're not perfect and don't always give perfect advice.

I out a usb switch which basically acts as an interrupt between the jeep and the dongle, because otherwise it would stay attached to jeep in house…works great cost 9$ on amazon
