Here's a pic of the rear area. 10" powered Fusion sub and on board air system.

The onboard air is a Viair 400 compressor with a Viair 1 gallon tank. I have a manifold, relay and pressure switch so it will pressurize the tank to 105 psi before it shuts off automatically. It will fire back up if it drops below 85 psi.

So I went with a JL 8" powered sub on the tailgaite, and it sounds amazing. A 10 will fit, but felt that it would interfere with cargo too much. Wish I would have know about the speaker change in the JLs when I ordered mine.
I knew I could get a helluva lot better stereo aftermarket for $1500 vs the alpine. While the alpine sounds good for what it is, it's no aftermarket JL set up.
I am just having a JL amp put on the factory speakers, and will replace the dashes with 3.5's, and wait for a JL plug and play for the sound bar to hopefully come out in the next few months.

That is killer. Great idea. Any tips you care to share? Where did you get your preamps? Please share anything you have that can help - I am dying to get some better sound! This looks like a great option.

This box has an amp in it. The cost was $399 at my local audio shop. I will say, I had my doubts, but it really thumps for an 8" sub! As mentioned, a 10" box will fit as well, but it's about 3" deeper into the cargo area. This one doesn't really protrude out further than the door lock/handle interior offset.
The base is amazing out of this little thing!
The Jeep is in the shop now having a JL amp wired to the factory speakers, I knew nothing about the speakers changing!!
I've always been an after market JL or Wetsounds guy so didn't order my JLUR with the alpine and am now seeing the issues with upgrading speakers.

As for mounting this box, if you pull plastic interior cover off the inside of the tailgate, there are 6 mounting holes, just pre drill your box to match those mounting holes and bolt it in. Solid as a rock on the tailgate.
There is zero vibration with the tailgate latched, but some slight vibration with the tailgate open.

Let me know if y'all need any more info.

Where did you pull from the signal from?
I assume the rear speakers, but where at exactly?
Where did you pull the remote wire from?
Did you run a bass knob?
Any pictures of how/where you ran the wires for power?
Where did you ground the amp?

Ok, remote lead came from the fuse box. Power wire came from under the battery. Signal came from rear speakers, pass side B pillar.
That box I have does signal sense and doesn't need a remote wire, and he just grounded it to the chassis.
Hope this helps.

I might very well steal this idea. :)

The 10 will absolutely thump! I have heard it, and it sounds amazing. I was really surprised how well the 8 performs too!

I'm just excited to take bass out of the sound bar. I cringe every time the speaker casing vibrates.

The only thing I am concerned with is it getting wet. I might look into options for some sort of weatherproofing.

Did you consider mounting this under the driver seat or rear seat to conceal it?

Just was quoted $275+tax to install this 8" jl audio sub to tailgate like yours. They highly recommended a separate bass knob be added to control the sub volume seperate. This price includes 8 gauge wire and bass knob drilled on front dash. Is the bass knob needed?
