As long as we can agree on price, I don’t care about the salesman. Their turnover rate is high... I’ll never see them again. I do require more of a service manager though. My salesman was a kid, never done a special order. The whole time I was” No, that’s a JK, no, you’re clicking on 2 door, but I got him through it. Picking it up today :turkey:

Part of the reason you are legally required to purchase new cars through dealerships in some states (including my own) is that the dealer is supposed to provide some assistance. The idea is that a purchaser can't possibly know the vehicle they're buying, and that the dealer, as a professional enterprise related to these specific vehicles, can assist with meaningful information.

There's a difference between being an enthusiast and knowing the basics about the vehicle. @jeremyjeep 's example is perfect. I don't expect the dealer to know the strengths and weaknesses of a D44 axle, but at least know things like tow rating. And, to other posts in this thread, understand the availability. I expect the dealer to bold faced lie that you can't get a vehicle below invoice, that's standard industry practice. But when they start making up information about trim availability and ordering, that's just too much.

Now let’s just hope it’s not a 2 doors JK that’s waiting for you on that lot ! Lol

When I bought my JK the salesman tried telling me it had an independent suspension.

When I bought my JL another salesman told me it wasnt supposed to come with a tool kit to take the camera cover off, doors off etc.

They dont know their product.

mine was missing and he said it didnt come with one. i asked him to check his facts.
I think he read your post too fast, like I did, and thought you said that you were told it "does" come with one, inferring that it in fact doesn't come with one. LOL.

Salesman replies to an inquiry email and says , “I’m not sure what you mean by JLUS”. Yup! I didn’t even respond.

I would give the guy a pass. I do not even think FCA corporate uses those extended acronyms for JK's and JL's with maybe the exception of using "JKU". Seems to be more of a quasi tribal knowledge standardization acronyms within the internet Jeep community than a corporate thing.

Actually the main reason you are required to buy new cars through dealerships is that the dealer associations pay lobbyists a lot of money to pay politicians a lot of money to pass laws like that. Same reason many states (like mine) don't allow car sales on Sundays - dealers lobbied for it.

My state, too. Your dead right. Ginned up logic, like customers being unable to learn themselves or that the dealers are somehow valuable to the local economy (classic "broken window fallacy") have been fed to us for years, while dealerships reap huge profits which they use to "lobby."

The first dealer I went to tried to talk me out of the dual top group because the soft top takes up too much room when the hard top is on. I tried to tell him you don't have them installed at the same time. To prove his point he took me to a JK with the dual top option and showed me that the soft top was installed under the hard top. I tried to explain that was just for shipping, but he wasn't accepting that.

BTW, this was the sales manager for the dealership.

Wow...
So the Mopar lift is on backorder at the dealer. I have one coming in through quadratec. I am at the dealer for my first oil change and to pick up the updated remedy spring perch. Since I was here and bored I figured I give the dealer a chance to qoute the install on the mopar lift.

He told me it would cost around $1700. I replied "I will be providing the parts". He said "yea that's for the labor. It's a half a day for install then a whole day for the alignment."
Other service guy says "yeah that 4" lift changes to whole drive train!"
I said "no! It's a 2" and it's only front lower trailing arms, coil springs, and shocks. Like a few hours. I've already been quoted $300 at Jeep Outfitters."
Smug reply "well you're getting a good deal."
Not sure if they thought I was a ignorant customer to take advantage of or if they themselves have no idea what they are talking about.

And they said there would be no warranty since I wasn't buying the parts through them.

Either way... won't be visiting this service department again.

Now I waiting to talk to the finance person to cancel the $3000 extended service I bought when purchasing. Can't stomach being forced have any and all work done here.
