Hello;

I bought my '18 JL with 3.6L new in Jan '19; and have always had high iron readings (see attached UOA). 5k miles ago, I switched to Quaker State Full Synthetic 5w-30. Iron readings on QS 5-30 oil were almost half of previous readings using Penzoil Ultra 0w-20. Whoa now, before all you 5w-30 guys start pointing and screaming 'I told you so"; besides the switch from 0-20 to 5-30; there is also the switch from Penzoil to Quaker State that could have a major role in lower iron readings. According to the blog "540 Rat"; Quaker State has the highest wear protection rating by far of any oil 540 Rat tested. So the brand switch could have a large bearing on this, no pun intended.

Just before I made the switch from 0w-20 to 5w-30; I made a 600 mile round trip acroos Washignton State. After the swictch to Quaker State 5w-30 I made that same trip, pretty similar weather; and got a little over 1.25 mile per gallon less with the 5w-30. Not totally scientific, but definitely less MPG. I recently moved to Arizona, and I've been running 89 Mid Grade gas; MPG is back running 23 to 24 MPG highway.

Overall I'm happy with mileage and iron readings running the Quaker State 5w-30 and mig grade gas.

540 RAT blog has some very interesting reading about motor oils. This guy actually tests things before publishing results. Link below:

Just switched to Liqui Moly 0-30, will see how that works out...

Amazon.com: Liqui Moly TOP TECH 4210 0W30, 5 Liters (Case of 1) : Automotive

I got my Jeep used with 75672 miles on it.
After getting it home I changed the oil to Valvoline high detergent 0-20 full synthetic.
I drained that oil at 77175 miles, it was very dark (not black)
After running it with the Liqui Moly I noted that the engine was much quieter.

I switched to 5W-30 about 9K miles ago in my 3.6L and my engine is quiet, smooth, and no decrease in mpg.

I remember his username from the Speedtalk Forum where a lot of engine builders, automotive machinists talked shop.

I tried to navigate that Wordpress a couple of minutes looking for this topic and just moved on.

Yea, a bit cumbersome to navigate. Go to the site and hit F3 key and type " MASTER WEAR PROTECTION RANKING LIST" search; that will get you to the oil test rankings.
