Just in case anyone in the future wonders. Current state of things below.

I ended up buying a UC5 8.4 radio (68453843AF) and i have made a custom harness to plug in to my JL successfully. The harness and radio work, however when i initially plugged the radio in, it asked for the theft code which is fine, I got the theft code and when i put it in it seems that ive lost most of the features that were on the radio before i put the theft code.

Lost Items after putting theft code in
- Ability to change themes (did work before theft code was put in)
- Dual HVAC and heated steering/seat controls dont show up on the radio any more
- carplay/AA dont show as options anymore
- Backup camera did work before theft code(not in HD), now doesn't show up as a button or when in reverse
- It seems that GPS works as the compass shows the direction but doesn't get GPS signal for time or anything
- cant remember for sure but i think NAV was on there but again locked due to theft code when i saw it
- SiriusXM doesn't show up as an option(not a huge deal but not working)
- Steering wheel controls (volume/media output change/radio tuning/green and red phone button/voice action button)
- offroad performance pages

Working items currently
- Bluetooth
- AM/FM (not HD radio)
- Backup sensors
- HVAC and heated steering/seat controls (physical buttons)
- external temperature display
- compass bearing
- radio physical controls(volume, radio tuning, mute, screen off, etc)
- calling via car mic

The radio looks like its putting out a wifi connection(for AA/carplay projection from phone?) as I can see it but don't know how to get the wifi password to connect.

T/s steps Ive done
- Factory Reset the radio twice

Talking to some others, this is as far as I think we can go without spoofing a bunch of messages from the car to the radio. The “radio” works but you don’t get anything from uc5.

there may be a more “hacky” way of doing it but I couldn’t get it to work.
Any further updates? Did you stick with this setup and did it start working more? Almost sounds like you have a canbus error in the harness

It sounds like the radio simply isn't compatible with the CANBUS, which was rumored to be the case with the 12" unit in the '24 Wranglers as well.

I just highly doubt they made an entire canbus change…the UC5 has been around for 2 years prior to JL getting it… which makes me think it was a canbus communication error as opposed to compatibility, maybe in the homemade harness. But, without OP comment who knows

I did not stick with it as it’s my daily, I talked to a few others on the RAM side and they said that it was highly unlikely it would work without hacking the signal and spoofing to the radio to get stuff to show up.

I know the harness worked because most stuff worked before putting in the theft code. I used the correct plugs and wires matched up with no issues. As soon as I put the code in, things shut down and wouldn’t show up, however they did work on the physical buttons.

Honestly without somebody really diving deep on the canbus stuff between UC4 and 5 we won’t know. I cannot confirm the new Jeep wrangler UC5 radio wouldn’t work, you may get different results since that would be a Jeep radio going into a Jeep, vs a RAM radio going into a Jeep like I did. If you could prove us wrong I’d love to see it cause a UC5 radio would be nice.

how’s the install going after few weeks? I’m thinking about doing this upgrade and wanted to see if it’s worth it
I am sorry never saw this come through, as my other post just now, I did not keep the radio and I didn’t get it working. If you have more determination then be my guest I’d love to see it work. I needed true Jeep to work cause it’s my daily. Let us know if you did decide to go uc5

I guarantee you Jeep has designed this to be incompatible with 2023s and older so that folks who want the radio bad enough will buy a new Jeep.
