Hello all! New member here, name’s Dave. I live in the Hilton Head area of SC. I have a 2018 JLU Sahara, I’m the second owner, I bought it 2020.

I’ve never been thrilled with the audio system, and I’d like to improve it, but I’m realizing I’m not sure what is currently installed. I had assumed it’s the standard system, but when looking at replacement speakers for the sound bar, I “MAY” have the premium system? Except, I don’t have a subwoofer anywhere, so perhaps I don’t have the premium system (?). Attached is a pic of one side of the soundbar - I’m hoping someone can help identify what I have? Thank you in advance and I hope you all had a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Do you have the 8.4” radio or 7”?

Thanks for responding! It’s the 7” radio.

If you have the 7" and no sub, then you have the "base" radio.

Yeah I was starting to figure that's what I have, the basic system. Thanks for verifying.

So, like I mentioned, I'm underwhelmed by it. Also, the soundbar vibrates horribly, to the point I have the fader adjusted 75/25 (front/back), and I have the bass turned down quite a bit, otherwise it's unlistenable due to the vibration/rattle. I've tightened all the screws and inserted some padding where i could between the plastic and metal frame, but no luck. The only thing that stops it, is when I touch anywhere on the soundbar, it dampens it and immediately stops vibrating. Currently I have a couple bungee cords wrapped around it which only helps a little. It sounds like a crappy transistor radio became of how I have the settings, but that's better than the vibrating!

One of these days I'll disassemble it and take a closer look. Maybe install some dynawrap inside it. And while I'm at it I'd like to replace the speakers. I'm liking the idea of the Select Increments pods, where you can replace the existing small speakers with 6.5" speakers.

If anyone else has been down this road, I'd love to hear your experience and what choices you made. Thanks!!!

I am ready to pull the trigger on replacing the stock speakers. I’m going to leave the knee panel spkrs alone, and just replace the dash (3.5”) and the sound bar spkrs. I am leaning toward replacing the sound bar spkrs with 6.5” spkrs via the Select Increments adapters, in hopes of coaxing a little more bass out of the system. I’m hoping to disassemble the sound bar as much as I can, so that I can install some sort of sound dampening mat inside it, as well as stuffing it with poly fill. I am avoiding installing add’l amps/subs/etc, I don’t have the budget for that stuff.

Anyone who has been down this path before, I’m all ears, please let me know if you have any pointers. And is there a particular brand/model spkr that would be best for this modest upgrade? Im currently looking at the Kicker CS spkrs.
Thanks!

It's worth the upgrade to do yourself. I changed the dash and sound bar to JL CX2 series speakers and still wasn't happy. Added a single stealthbox and a 5 channel amp and now the kids say they hear me coming a couple minutes before I pull in the driveway.

Thanks guys. I would love to add a sub, and I’m open to suggestions. I’m self-admittedly not very handy with this sort of thing tho, so a sub would have to be a somewhat easy DIY. Are there certain models that aren’t too difficult to install?

The dash spkrs and SB spkrs, I’m pretty sure I can tackle those, but I am telling you, it’s going to take me 5X longer than a normal person, it’s just the way these things go for me :) at least my self-expectations are in check lol

Or, there are a couple places around here that do car audio installs … so I could get them to do the sub if it’s too involved for me, but prob not till late next year.
