After 644 miles we noticed a puddle on the garage floor. There is red fluid leaking from the transmission / transfer case area.

Very disappointing as this will require "major surgery" I am guessing to repair. Waiting to hear back from the dealer so we can come up with a plan. Hopefully all guess well and we wont need help from @JeepCares!

Hi MNSeapilot,

This is not what we wish to hear with a new Jeep! If you are in need of assistance while your vehicle is in service, please send us a PM.

The diagnosis is the seal between the transmission and the transfer case. They said the seal is on back order with no idea how long it will take to get.

How bad is the leak? Is it still driveable? If not, may qualify for lemon law if it canā€™t be fixed and out of service for an extended period.

It is not that bad of a leak at all, we are continuing to drive.

Well after waiting three months for a seal the dealer, Coon Rapids Chrysler Jeep in the Minneapolis area did not fix the problem. The leak actually appeared worse. How they could not test drive it and leak check is beyond me. I am switching to another dealer after talking with them about their quality control, fingers crossed. @JeepCares I am not going to be pleased if I have to wait for another seal!

My JL is leaking now too, we'll see where and how Fury does on it. But thank you, I know where NOT to take it here in the Cities.

I took it in for service and the first response was that it was the red clay/mud + water packed up in there that was dripping, BUT I had not driven it in TWO months and there was no way it was wet. After they went back, sprayed out the mud, they found it was indeed leaking on the seal on the transmission and the transfer case was also wet - so they're replacing both seals under warranty (should do both if going through all the effort to get to these parts). Assuming I DO get it back in 2 hours as discussed, it will have taken 2 days due to parts but they lent me a JKU. I would say it was a pretty good experience, but I learned to ask for the mechanics that work there that I know in my club. Don't take no when you have clear evidence of red fluid on your garage floor for months.

Where I had seen the fluid underneath was on the screws (middle one but also the passenger side) holding the main crossmember below the transmission just in front of the transfer case.

Here's the outcome from Fury in S. St. Paul, MN; it's all good (luckily I didn't accept their first explanation)! Did take 3 days with the need for parts, but they lent me a JKU.
