Looking for a recommendation for a trailer hitch for a 2 door JL Sports v6. Looking for something simple to install and great quality. Not opposed to OEM but is there stuff just as good or better for less?

there are plenty of hitch receivers for the JL available. It is the same specifications as the JK so yo can get either one and it will bolt on directly. Buy the cheapest you can find...there is nothing to them...just get a one with a trusted brand name. I see them on craigslists frequently for about $25.

......NOW installing it....now that is a different matter all together. It should be a 45 min to 1hour to install. but there are some tricks that will help you get this done. Without some knowledge from people who have previously installed them.....it could take several hours. Not to install...but just trying brainstorm and figure out how to get access to the nuts and bolts.
Its all very simple and easy...but ohhhh it would have been much easier if I had known the little tricks before. This is the kind of stuff that should be included in the instructions when you buy the thing.
Best advice is to install the two inner bolts first, then the outboard bolts afterwards.
If you install the outboard nuts and bolts .....they will block your access the the inner bolts and nuts.
IMPORTANT: use a box wrench to hold the nuts......you will have to slide the box wrench into the hollow frame section to hold the nut. The hollow frame section has holes in it so you can still maneuver and hold the wrench.....but the holes are not big enough for the wrench to fit through it....so sliding it inside from the end of the frame sections is the best way to get your wrench on the nut. Good luck that was the hardest part: figuring out how to hold the nuts inside the frame section.

Installed the Mopar receiver, then install and 8" extender. The extended has a bit of play in it. So now when I am driving wit the bikes on the rack the rack sways from side to side. Makes me extremely uncomfortable looking to see my entire bike-rack swaying. Is there anything I can do about the swaying.

I don't know what Curt offers for the JL but they're my first stop for any application, including draw bars and balls

I recently installed the Curt C13392 hitch receiver. I choose this model because it has a longer receiver tube, so there was no need for an extender for my bike rack to clear the spare tire. It's a tight fit, but a relatively easy install.

I have never installed a (rear) hitch that is easier than the Wrangler's.

It's 4 straight forward bolts, torque them, and call it a day.

I have installed hitches on other vehicles whose kits included (because they had to) snakes that fed wires with nuts or bolts at the other end through one hole in a structural member and out another. And although that was ultimately doable, by comparison, the Wrangler's install is a breeze.

Yep, BTDT on an '81 GM van! I was impressed by the ingenuity of the aftermarket, though

Agreed. The designers of some kits really had to work with tough factory holes and bolts to produce a safe install. It was never about deliberately making the install hard; just to make it work.

I have Draw-Tite and love it. Always impressed of the welding and quality. Installation is simple but easier with some extra hands.

This should take care of that problem.

I have a 2021 jl wrangler and have a question. I used a Curt wiring harness #58964 plug and play to wire it to flat tow behind our rv. It worked perfectly and was easy to install. I recently installed a trailer hitch on the Jeep and need to wire it for trailer lights. The Curt 58964 harness has a pigtail for this purpose, but requires an additional harness. Curt offers 3 different part numbers 58918, 58919 & 58920. Can anyone explain the difference between them?

In looking at the various hitches etrailer has to offer for JL, there ARE huge differences in the design, structure, and welding between the different ones. Some like the DrawTite brand appear to me that they would be far stronger because they simply have more material and more welds.
