Our 2022 JLUXR is experiencing a feeling like something is loose when going over bumps. It’s not quite death wobble, but it is a shimmy when going over bumps at highway speed. Sometimes going around curves it also happens. I noticed this play in the bushing at the axle side of the track bar and was wondering if this is normal or if this is probably the culprit.

Thanks in advance!

That’s likely the culprit, but even if it isn’t, it will be soon….. I’d start by getting an aftermarket track bar, NOT another oem bar…they really are junk…..I think they’re made out of steel and rubber that’s been recycled one too many times….😅

Thanks. Is it worth upgrading the track bar to an aftermarket one even if keeping the jeep stock with no off-roading? This one stays on the pavement, and ironically the other 22 we have that goes off-roading a bunch doesn’t have any issues

It’ll never hurt to be better than oem with HD components. It’s a no brainer if better priced

I would…..just because you don’t know what you’re gonna get with oem… you may get one that will last forever, I’m sure there’s a shit ton of guys out there saying “ I don’t know what you’re talking about, my track bar is fine for 50K” well that’s the crapshoot…..I’ll put it this way, if I went out tomorrow and bought a brand new Jeep I would replace the track bar, hell, I’d probably bring one with me and change it in their lot when I picked it up…. 😅 I honestly lost count of how many I’ve changed in the past 6 years….

My 2020 JLUR is a pavement princess. The local off-road shop said there is a small amount of play in my track bar as well. They wanted to replace it with OEM as I'm not lifted. I will be replacing mine with aftermarket; looking at Steer Smarts with the low profile clamps.

Not everybody gets a chance to…but if do switch your track bar with a aftermarket, make sure you get a chance to hold both of them, you’ll see what I’m talking about….. the oem track bar is super lightweight, you could probably bend it over your knee, aftermarket bar not so much, 😆

I recently replaced my stock LCAs with Clayton Overland LCAs. The Mopar arms felt like toys in comparison! Sounds like the track bar is the same.

Start by looking at tbe trackbar torq number.
My 2023 with 9k started wondering and have small shimmy on bumps.
Retorq both track bar and the issue went away. I also did 15 lbs over spects.
Learned a long time ago you need to keep this tight or you get chew up bolts holes.
Aftermarket is a nice thing also in that area if you have the money

weight has little effect on the road but the type of bushing have a great effect on the road . You don't want a soft OE type clevite bushings even a little movement creates more steering correction when driving . Thats one place I only use a bar with Johnny Joints just because they have no give and holds it tightly which you want on road and allows more vertical motion that you could ever use off road .
