Does my factory spare have a TPMS sensor installed? I swapped my spare to my front driver side and my TPMS system light came on and stayed on in the instrument cluster and it is not reading the tire pressure on that tire.

It Should! Take it to the Dealer and have them install a new one. I'm assuming you are still under warranty. Although wait a few days ...it may take time to recognize. Mine is a 2018 and some items have changed like the tpms...check in settings for resetting them? just reaching, Like I said some things have changed with the newer JL's.

Did you drive it a few miles after the spare went on?

it has to be programmed to the vehicle. There are only 4 TPMS locations on a wrangler and the spare is not one of them. When you put the original wheel back on, it will need to be programmed once again. They do not program themselves when swapping tires. If you rotate your tires, you also have to have tham all reprogrammed as well or they will not show in the correct tire location.

it has to be programmed to the vehicle in the location it is being used. If you rotate your tires, you also have to have tham all reprogrammed. It was still probably reading the one you took off that I am assuming was flat and thats why the light is on.
Incorrect - they automatically get reconfigured to the proper corner. At least on my 22. Rotates stock tires with the spare. No issues. Bought new wheel/tire set with new sensors. Synced up automatically.

There’s a home reset procedure for when the auto detect messes up.
Copy/paste from @Goin2drt :
1. Remove the spare and leave it in the garage. (if the TPMS is awake it can foul up the relearn)
2. Lower your PSI 12lbs and go drive for like a block is all.
3. Come back and fill to exactly the door placard even if you are not going to run that PSI. Once relearned you can adjust to what you want as long as it is not 10% below door placard.
4. Go drive a few miles. All should relearn properly.

I was completely unaware that these sensors relearn. That is awesome info. All of my other cars all need to be reprogrammed when changing anything. Thanks for the info!!!

Theoretically. My Rubicon would randomize my tire location after each rotation, then throw TPMS errors because it was trying to read a tire that was across the Jeep.

Thanks I’ll give that a try!

Did it get resolved?
Nope. Totally didn’t work. Guess I’m going to have to take it to the dealership. I was trying to avoid that because it’s such a hassle.

Hmmm. I’ve had to work my spare into the rotation twice, once due to a torn valve stem on the trail and once during normal 5 tire rotation. Each time the cpu figured it out right away. 21 Rubi.
