Hello,
Could any one clarify me the working of the TPMS in spare tire of JL 2020, Is it actually programmed with the car.
If I remove the TPMS from spare tire will show the indication in the cluster. or instrument cluster only reads from the tires which used in car

The TPMS sensor in the spare is not read by a chassis sensor/ considered by the computer until it is placed in one of the 4 tire positions.

In regard to your JL's TPMS:

-
How does the JL know which tire/rim/wheel is where .....

Well, there are 3 sensors on the chassis that monitor the 4 TPMS Sensors found on the 4 tire (rim) positions.

Info from the 3 chassis sensors is transmitted to the Wireless Control Module. There is no need for a 4th chassis sensor as the computer uses the process of elimination to determine the fourth tire location.

Yes, your JL knows exactly which rim is where, usually within seconds of a tire rotation for example. Yes, It's all done automatically.

The JL, does have a TPMS sensor in the spare, but it is not read by a chassis sensor/ considered by the computer until it is placed in one of the 4 tire positions.

As long as the TPMS's on the take offs you will be installing are say off another 2021 JL, (compatible 433 mhz TPMS sensor) all you will have to do is place the take offs on your 2021 JL Sport and the JL will do all the rest just as I mentioned above.

You would just want to do the following right after you put the take offs on:

Make sure your PSI is set to what the the door placard recommends. Then go for a ride... Hopefully, all will display after a mile or so.. AFTER all TPMS's are reading you can change the psi on tires.

If that is a no go try -->Often the spare messes things up so remove the spare, leave it in the garage and with the PSI's all set as per the door placard, go drive for a few minutes. Once all displays properly, put the spare back on the spare holder.

Also try: --> the current thought by most TPMS retailers/vendors, that IF you have one or more sensors not reading on a say a JL/JLU/JT, you deflate all tires to 12# below the recommended tire pressure, driver's side door sticker that tells you recommended tire psi. Now, after they are deflated you drive say a half mile. Now, you inflate to to +- 1# psi, of the recommended psi on the driver's side door sticker and go for a mile drive.. This scenario/routine is suppose to wake up the sensors, so to speak and get them reading...

As long as it the same frequency sensor (ie from another Jeep, or a vehicle using similar sensors) it will pick it up automatically.

Rhinebeck01 was much more detailed and brings up a good point.
Sometimes the system will display the tpms light after a swap even though the display shows all reading correct pressure. This will typically clear after a short drive and/or a few engine cycles. I'm not sure what the threshold is, but I've noticed it a few times after swapping my tires (I have 2 sets)

While this should work, I cannot get my TPMS to work right.

I picked up a set of factory Sahara rims and tires of craigslist. I replaced my four tires with my spare, the spare that came with the new set, and two of the slightly worn new tires. Now on my dash it shows one tire's correct pressure, and three with '--', and of course warning lights. The irony is that the one tire that shows pressure is one of the new worn tires, while my original spare shows --.

I tried both hacks and neither has worked.

@ODDs

You might want to start by stopping by a tire store and have them check to see if a TPMS is in fact in each wheel and that each TPMS is functioning. Discount Tire and others will check for free.

Thanks for the advice, it's probably easier and cheaper to start with Discount than going to the dealer.

The same exact thing happened to me ...the one that does read is off (reads really high) .. my guess is that whoever sold u the wheels already took out four sensors ..I haven't gone so far to check my theory though. I still have my original steelies so eventually I probably will use the sensors from those.
