If repair is decided on, watch for what parts are installed. Often the insurance insists on non OEM cheap parts.
My RAM 1500 got crushed by a deer at 75 MPH and was still repaired. Everything from the bumper to motor was replaced including air bags and shotgun frame was straightened. Junk parts were installed.

Sorry, no other pics, just a quick snap before they towed. Just frustrating since we had to put so much down to get a decent payment and if totaled the money is a loss. Thanks for the input.
The good news is that the current market has improved dramatically since your original lease. You can probably lease a 2023 Sahara 4xe for about $5xx per month with nothing down (details, of course, vary by state). The passing thru of the $7500 tax credit helps a lot.

Without knowing the details of your current lease, I wouldn't just write off any possible equity you may have in the (possibly) totalled vehicle. Find out what your lease payoff is and ask the insurance company to pay the lessor that amount and give you the difference. The process varies by insurance company with respect to how additional insureds and loss payees are paid insurance proceeds.

The problem with Gap insurance is that it more than likely means you overpaid for the vehicle, or you had negative equity rolled over from your trade... If you are willing to fork out the extra cash for the premium, go for it, but dealerships will often try to sell you Gap insurance even if it isn't needed...

I traded with $13,000 positive equity and they still tried to sell me Gap Insurance... It's just a money racket for the dealers, there are some that need it, but not everyone... Just decide whether or not you need it before you sign on the dotted line, everyone's financial situation is different.
Gap insurance on a jeep is pretty unnecessary, even if you get a good rate, simply because you aren't "upside down" for very long with a Jeep and even then it's not by much because of the strong resale value.

In contrast, if you get a no-money down 8 year loan on a Jaguar, you are going to be upside down probably until you are in your 6th year.

If your insurance company is the one paying, then you have much less leverage on the parts used. In your policy is language saying the they can use aftermarket parts. Usually if you car is over X years old. My policy says if the car is over 3 years old they can use aftermarket parts.

However, if you are hit by someone else and their insurance company is paying, EVERYTHING is negotiable. You don't have a policy or contract with them. It's all up in the air.

This is why I was able to negotiate the following after my 4 year old Audi was hit by someone with me 0% at fault.

1) rental reimbursement even though my policy didn't cover it.
2) all Audi parts.
3) diminished value

Most insurance companies will total a car with damage of about 40 or 45% of the value of the vehicle. Due to parts shortages it could be lower.

I hope no one was injured.

Just how the vehicle gets fixed has a lot to do with how old it is and the insurance company involved. Industry insiders have told me Geico is the worst and USAA is the best. Too bad we all can't get USAA.

The vehicle in the photo is probably going to be totaled.

If you get into an accident where you really get screwed is diminution of value. Typically, it's around a 10% reduction of trade in value, but each vehicle is unique. That's avoided if the vehicle is totaled as the insurance pays the pre collision retail value.

People worried about owing more than insurance will pay for a totaled vehicle need to be thinking about whether they really could afford the vehicle in the first place.

I am not worried about my coverage covering the car. It will pay off in full if totaled. Thanks

This is my JT, totaled last November. Frame & body mount bolts bent amongst other damage, but the windshield survived Guy ran a stop sign I t-boned him at 35mph. Walked away with cuts & bruises on my hands from the airbag. Counted my blessings that day.

With all the crap about absorbing impact for passengers vehicles are pretty much disposable at this point.

It's totaled. Just got the call. :(
That's the best call man tbh. I lost my 2018 2 door wrangler less than 2 months after the accident I was sitting in a new 2019 JL. You get your check and go get yourself a new one. I did have to fight the insurance a bit though cause they lowballed me.

Well. that crap (and airbags) saved my life and my wife life back in 2019 when we had an accident a 65mph in our 2 door wrangler. If we were in one of those stiff boxes of the past we would probably be gone.

You are much less likely to die in an accident in a modern vehicle than an old one.

I know it's not jeep related, but this just happened near me on Thursday night.

They don't make them like they used to. THANK GOD.

You are looking at one car on top of another car, smashed between two 18 Wheelers.

Nobody died or was even seriously injured. The car on the bottom appears to be a current generation Honda Accord.

Dang, that really sucks! Glad you guys aren't too injured.

I'd highly recommend you try to find a replacement Jeep with the Advanced Safety Package. If yours had this option, you likely would not have ever had to post this question in the first place because the accident would have been prevented from happening altogether.
Lol, that's a broad brush stroke of assumption. I'd be willing to bet it wouldn't have done much in this situation, looks like Ops husband was going reasonably fast to cause the damage that was done.
I have the ASG and while it's gone off a couple times, it only applied brakes in one instance on a slow left turn where the guy in front of me decided to stop on an advance green for whatever reason. Maybe going like 20kph.

Not worried about the pay off, it's a lease and it has Gap, so that will take care of all the money owed. It's getting the new one at a reasonable price without down grading or putting a ton of money down. I mean 60-71,000 makes for a chunk of a payment .
I am in Ontario Canada (no fault) so not sure if similar where you are. Last January my 5 month old JLUR got totaled. When I reached out to the leasing company they told me they negotiate with the insurance to get me top dollar & any dollars over the lease payout goes back to me. The point is they don’t just go for what is the lease payout & they don’t just accept first offer from the insurance. Further to this Gap paid me the difference between what the lease company was paid & replacement value. The rub was replacement value for a 5 month old JLUR with 7000km on it is a 5 month old JLUR with 7000km - not a brand new one. Sadly that left me about $3k short for the new replacement. The real kick in the ass is the other vehicle went through a red & I have dash cam of the entire accident proving I had green. The other driver got charged. I would have a conversation with the leasing company & push everyone (nicely) to push hard for you. I’m not sure if this was helpful but this is how it played out for me.
